10x Sweeter Than Sugar Products And Facts

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Stevia products are used by many companies now as artificial sweeteners. Stevia has no calories and can be used in beverages, cooking, baking, and anywhere sugar might be used. The Stevia product SweetLeaf Sweetener is calorie free, all natural and has a zero glycemic index.
Truvia is another Stevia product used as a sweetener.
These boxed sweeteners are quite expensive so I will grow the plant for use.

I wish our Wal Mart had some plants! I would buy several. Stevia is the only sweetener I use now.

Sweet Leaf is the best kind of Stevia that I know of so far. I ordered some from Puritans Pride once (not sweet leaf, another kind) and the main ingredient was not Stevia, it was Maltodexterin, which I do Not watch out for that if you ever buy your Stevia. It should only have one ingredient, Stevia.

I read about growing it and didn't think I could do it here. There are sweet plants and not sweet plants and I need to do more research on it, but it would be so awesome to grow your own sweet Stevia.

Good luck with your next garden (when you have time) and may all your stevia plants be healthy and wonderfully sweet!

I have been so busy settling my Dad's estate since March that I haven't even had a garden this year but I definately want to grow this plant in the future.

I tried growing Stevia from seeds, it sprouted quite easily but was not so easy to keep alive! In Wisconsin where I live it needs to be brought in if it gets below 50 degrees, which this summer it is doing quite regularly! I am going to try and grow it again, this time as just a houseplant.
Are you growing it? I'd like to know what success/failure you've had. Also, most stevia you buy is liquid/powder form so I'm not sure how I would substitute the dried herb for baking etc ... Any ideas on that?
