I Think My Appetite is Cyclical

Saturday, January 24, 2009

I'm noticing a pattern. For the past 7 days or so, I've been hungrier than I was for the two-weeks prior. I've been paying careful attention, and it's not cravings, it's hunger. I need more food to feel satisfied. My stomach is growling sooner.

I decided that as long as I'm eating nutritiously in reasonable portions, and not eating to the point of feeling stuffed, then I'm going to cut myself some slack. If I'm correct, my appetite will right itself in a few days. I think this is the key to avoid a self-pity binge. I'll keep weighing myself, but I won't expect any progress during this time.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this about themselves.

Yeah, I'm definitely hungrier some days than others. Your solution is so simple and yet it's so hard for me to be that reasonable somehow when I'm in the midst of it all. Next time I get that way, I will try to remember what you wrote and have just a little extra, keeping things under control. Thanks. :)

I am hungrier a week or so before TOM (which is where I happen to be right now).

As long as you can recognize the difference between cravings and true hunger, I think it's perfectly ok to eat more at some times than others -- in fact, it's more than ok, it's normal. It's about balance over time, not perfection every day.
