Well, I've Begun

Friday, February 13, 2009

I am new to SparkPeople. I joined in December 2008, but I have not been active here. Part of my problem in getting the weight off is space, or the lack thereof, in my home. I have a treadmill, but it is too big for any of the rooms in my home so I put it in storage. Our driveway is rocky and just treacherous enough to cause an ankle or foot injury. Perfect excuses not to excercise, right? Well, not anymore.

Last night, I measured the length of my hallway in my home. It is 21 feet from one end of the hall to the other. There are 5280 feet in a mile. Figuring all this up, it is 126 round trips up and down my hall to make a mile. After I figured it up, I walked 126 laps up and down the hall. It took about 21 minutes, and I was not walking slowly, either.

The journey to lose 140 pounds begins with a single step. Away I go!

Oh, I just thought of this, so let me edit here- I had promised my son two years ago that the next time we go to an amusement park, I would not be too big for the rides. I am doing this for him. Dollywood, here we come! I want to lose 50 pounds by September. That is a goal, but even if I lose 30, I think I wil lose enough inches so that I can get on the rides and the safety harness will connect. I WILL WIN!

Kudos to you for making your walk happen. I also started with "house walking" ... from my front door to my back door over and over and over. I felt like one of those rats in a cage lol. I just bought a "Walk Away the Pounds" (in home walking) dvd at Walmart ... $15 and I can do it in front of the puter. You don't need alot of space. Maybe that will work for you too.

    Good luck on your journey,

I just started as well and I have about 83 pounds to lose. I too have a treadmill but mine is a space saving one that folds if I want it. I also have a stationery bike/elliptical trainer and a sauna. My problem is motivation. Perhaps you can keep me motivated?

Yes, you will win. Baby steps are the patience we need to get to our goals. Not easy, but they work! (smiling) Welcome, from a fellow newcomer. Best wishes for success! emoticon
