Well, I've Begun

I am new to SparkPeople. I joined in December 2008, but I have not been active here. Part of my problem in getting the weight off is space, or the lack thereof, in my home. I have a treadmill, but it is too big for any of the rooms in my home so I put it in storage. Our driveway is rocky and just treacherous enough to cause an ankle or foot injury. Perfect excuses not to excercise, right? Well, not anymore.

Last night, I measured the length of my hallway in my home. It is 21 feet from one end of the hall to the other. There are 5280 feet in a mile. Figuring all this up, it is 126 round trips up and down my hall to make a mile. After I figured it up, I walked 126 laps up and down the hall. It took about 21 minutes, and I was not walking slowly, either.

The journey to lose 140 pounds begins with a single step. Away I go!

Oh, I just thought of this, so let me edit here- I had promised my son two years ago that the next time we go to an amusement park, I would not be too big for the rides. I am doing this for him. Dollywood, here we come! I want to lose 50 pounds by September. That is a goal, but even if I lose 30, I think I wil lose enough inches so that I can get on the rides and the safety harness will connect. I WILL WIN!

    Kudos to you for making your walk happen. I also started with "house walking" ... from my front door to my back door over and over and over. I felt like one of those rats in a cage lol. I just bought a "Walk Away the Pounds" (in home walking) dvd at Walmart ... $15 and I can do it in front of the puter. You don't need alot of space. Maybe that will work for you too.

    I just started as well and I have about 83 pounds to lose. I too have a treadmill but mine is a space saving one that folds if I want it. I also have a stationery bike/elliptical trainer and a sauna. My problem is motivation. Perhaps you can keep me motivated?
