WooHoo - I got my boot off!!!!!
Monday, February 23, 2009
Good news today! I got my boot off! I have to work gradually into exercise; it takes about a month. The doctor said to start off with about 20 minutes a day for the first week to protect the muscles, ligaments and tendons. Next week I can do 30-35 minutes, then increase it to 40-45 the following week and so on up to 60 minutes. I have to start off with bicycling on the recumbent cycle because the ankle is so stiff from being in the boot. For the first month I will do only the water and the bicycle and some light walking. I am also wearing orthodics now to keep this from happening again. The doctor said that it will be a year before the bone is really strong again, 100% healed, so I have to be careful for an entire year. This means no walking barefoot (probably forever), always wearing some sort of orthotic and putting the boot back on for a while if my foot starts to feel tender. I am so thankful that it is at least 80% healed. I'm going to be super careful so I don't re injure it. WooHoo!!!!!
