hypoglycemia

Monday, March 30, 2009

I completely blew my diet today!!!

I had errands to run in town. I ate breakfast late because I wanted to eat right before I left and be able to get back home to eat a late lunch. I had eggs, 2 slices of turkey bacon, and a half grapefruit for breakfast. The half grapefruit was too much. My blood sugar started falling a couple of hours later when I was headed back home. I felt shaky and didn't want to take a chance on driving the 14 miles home and maybe bottom out on the way. I pulled over and got out my sugar cube case and it was empty!! So I stopped at the only place to eat in the area which was a Hardees. I haven't eaten at Hardees in years and had no idea what they serve. I felt sick and didn't feel like walking inside so I was in the drive through and when the woman asked if I wanted a ......blah, blah, blah" I just said yes, yes, yes, whatever. I ended up with something called a Western Burger and it was a MESS! I wasn't going to eat the bun but it was such a sloppy thing I had no choice as I didn't have a fork to eat it with. I usually hate things like this but it tasted okay. To be honest I was a little out of it and I'm not even sure what was on it. At any rate it helped and I was able to finally drive home after 20 minutes.

When I arrived home I went to my screen room and sat down in my glider before I attempted the stairs. As I was sitting there the screen room door on the other side of the spa opened up and I thought, "Am I hallucinating?" Then the neighbors yellow lab named Daisy walked around the spa and jumped on my chest!! This dog has learned how to open doors!!!!! It's weird but Daisy seemed to know I was sick because she kept trying to go to my front and back door which she never does. Her dog friend Hondo was with her and he sat there watching.

At any rate who knows how many calories and carbs are in this thing I ate at noon. I haven't had a hypoglycemic event in a long time so I'm going to have to watch my carbs. I finally got to feel better later in the day.

I know how frightening an experience it is when our blood sugars drop too low... you managed it the best way you could.

Yikes yikes ... That moment when you are just bottomed out and then your brain gets fuzzy and your hands shake and you feel like you're going to buckle ... ooh scary stuff. You know, the Hardees grab wasn't your first choice and I'm sure you'll restock your purse and glove box and whatever so you'll be fine. Be very polite and gentle with yourself - it was a boo boo, but it was one to keep you ticking! Tomorrow is another day.

It is interesting how pets seem to know when you are in distress, especially when it isn't even your own pet! That dog must love you! I'd keep Daisy close by!

Woah. Going hypo is scary. Please remember to re-stock the car with propper snacks.

That reminds me... I need to check Hubby's stash, too. I ate his protein bar on Friday.
