Life's Milestones or Stumbling Blocks
Wednesday, April 01, 2009
Fourteen years ago a doctor told me that if I didn't stop smoking I would not see my 50th birthday. That was a big stumbling block. I was 40 years old at the time and had been smoking since I was 17. Well I am happy to say that I took the doctor's advice an quit smoking. The only problem that I had with quitting smoking is that exchanged it with eating. I am not proud of the fact that I gained almost 200 pounds in 10 years. I ballooned up to 315 pounds. In the last 4 years I have lost as much as 100 pounds an then gain it back. I finally have managed the last year to keep the weight down between 250 and 260. I wasn't watching my calories or exercising very much.
In January my doctor recmmended a lap-band procedure. He thought it might be my only chance of keeping the weight off. Here is another one of those stumbling blocks again. I don't have any insurance. I am disabled an lost my insurance when I left work. Sometime in March of next year I will be elligle for medicare. So I can't afford Lap-band procedure. I also do not want to have another operation if I can help it.
I have made myself a promise that I will lose the weight I need to lose. Any more stumbling blocks come along I am going to make them milestones on my road to a healthier me. So I invite all of you to join me on this journey. Lets turn those stumbling blocks into milestones and reach our goals.
