Day Off

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Today was beautiful. I wanted to spend the entire day parked in my lounge chair, sitting on a beach somewhere, digging my toes in the sand, soaking up the rays, listening to tropical steel drum music, sipping sugar-free/virgin/pink/foo-foo drinks with umbrellas, snacking on fancy appetizers that someone else prepared. Unfortunately I had to work, just like every other day. Big sigh.

I often wonder if a woman has ever had a real day off. By a day off I mean a day where all you do is your own personal hygiene. Nothing more. No cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, chauffeuring, problem solving, cleaning up messes, listening to whining, breaking up fights,....................on and on. I really can't recall ever having a day like that. Even when I'm on vacation and that's about the closest I have ever come to it.

I would like to think that someday I may get to experience a real day off. It's something to look forward to. A lofty goal.

I have gone on a one-night get-away with hubby and told myself I'd sleep in as late as I like, and then I get up just as early as when I'm home...FIGURES!!

I agree that women do not often get a day off...but realistically neither do our men!

Great post. so true. Do you think we as women could even enjoy it if we got one?

One time (yes, once) recently I saw my husband cleaning the kitchen after I had made supper. Usually we eat, and then I do other things for a while and then come back to clean it. this time I was sitting down checking email and he started to clean the kitchen and dishes....

I had this uncontrollable urge to get up and help him.

What is the matter with me (us?)

I love it! I'm lucky enough to get to the beach pretty often, and we stayed at a rented condo 2 weeks ago, but you are right, we still had to "do" stuff. We did eat out and not cook much, so that was nice. Maybe not to my waistline, but to my psyche. Leah emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
