My Shopping Day

Winter returned today. It was cold and damp and gloomy. I knew I wouldn't want to do my walking outside in the muck so I went to town instead and did my errands and shopping.
It's always shocking how much groceries cost. I buy the same things over and over again and I try to buy as much as I can on sale but it really is more expensive to eat healthy. Around here you have to go to all the grocery stores in order to find the best foods as it is hit and miss.
Even with my huge side by side, a large dorm fridge, and my big upright freezer I have trouble getting all my meat, eggs, cheese, fresh fruits, and veggies in my fridge. I still end up with the countetops covered.
I eat more fruits and veggies than many people do on low carb. I try to concentrate on the lower glycemic load ones but they don't bother my blood sugar like things like cereal, pasta, potatoes, and bread do.
I've found that my pantry has less in it all the time as most of the food I eat is in the fridge or freezer. Even nuts stay fresher in the fridge. So many pantry foods have too much salt, sugar, or other white stuff in them so they have slowly been eliminated from our grocery list.
I have an extra dorm fridge and another large upright freezer plus a small upright freezer in the pole barn because when our garden is bountiful I have a lot to put in it. I tend to freeze things rather than can them. I hate to can. My husband loves it so if any gets done he does it. This year we are planning a huge garden. We have all the cool weather crops planted and will have lettuce soon.
