The Second Week

Friday, May 15, 2009

After two weeks here at SP, I have lost three pounds. I feel less weighted down than I used to, both emotionally and physically.

This week, I have decided NOT to use the Nutrition and Fitness trackers.

...Because they have awakened my inner anorexic/exercise bulimic. I spent that whole first week obsessing on them. I would wake up in the morning and race to the computer to enter my weight...then my breakfast...then I would just stare at the screen, thinking of new and totally unhealthy ways to decrease my caloric intake while boosting my activity levels.

My days were centered around those stupid trackers. I figured they were becoming a problem when I realized I was hiding my obsession from my husband. If I wasn't doing something "wrong" why would I need to hide it?

SO, this week is about making sensible choices with my food, staying active (but not spending large chunks of my day exercising until I feel like I'm going to pass out...and then lying about how much time I spent exercising on the tracker), and not letting myself get carried away with this whole SP thing!

Wolfie (Wolfy?) Girl...Thanks for the comment! I was going to respond to you...but then, like a COMPLETE dork, I clicked "Delete Comment!"

I think it's really a great idea to put those things aside. I am back to beginning again and using the trackers but do rely too much on them. I can try what you are doing; thx much for the post. You are really doing great with this.

After all, we are not going to spend our entire life to track every food we eat or every fitness minute, stop using the trackers if it becomes an obsession. The point of them is to help not to create any addiction.
Good step to reflect on it, and for doing what it's right for you.

Listen to your body, and you'll be just fine!

Wish you a good and productive week!

Add me to the list who dont follow the fitness and diet trackers. I've been recording what I eat since I was 11, and I weigh myself each morning. I am measuring my biceps to see if my minnie mouse arms are becoming stronger, but that is about it. Like you, the trackers just seemed to trigger me backwards into anorexia again.

Good for you for following your own instincts!

It's funny to me how MANY people under eat...when we're told by everyone that the reason losing weight is difficult is because we OVER eat.

    It boggles the mind.

...And I'm glad I'm not the only one who got all caught up in the numbers! SP's pervasive numbers are addictive!

I ran into a similar issue. I almost bought a food scale. It DID serve a very good purpose in the begining for me though. It showed me I underate, which stopped me from losing weight. Once I started eating more, with my exercise, the weight finally started to move. So now I just do it for a week every few months so I can know where I'm at.
