Struggling to get the weight off!

Monday, June 29, 2009

Back in January, I was hoping for a no gain month. Well, that didn't happen and now it is June and I am still doing the yo-yo thing. I try to get exercise and watch what I eat, but I guess I fall off the wagon too many times and the weight is still there.

I need some motivation to keep up with the walking and increase it somehow. I sprained my ankle back in March which hasn't helped. I have been having to get back into everything slowly. Doctor says it could take up to 6 months to totally get better.

I look forward to meeting more of you on Spark People. I love this site! It has so many helps and resources are endless. Thank you Spark People! Keep up the good work. Now I must do my part. Have a wonderful day.

Hi SSWALTER411 - I completely understand your dilemna. I hurt my ankle back last fall and really struggled with it until about May of this year. I also felt that I had fallen off the wagon so many times that I didn't know how to get back on. I evaluated everything and started with small steps. For example, if you drink soda, try to cut it out. Or if you eat dessert, cut back to one piece of chocolate or just one piece of candy (sugar free caramels are really good to suck on and give me the feeling of dessert). Also, drink as much water as possible! I think another one of the things that might help you is to find another exercise that you can enjoy that doesn't hurt your ankle as much as walking. Have you ever tried pilates? Or maybe try to do strengthing excercises on your upper body (lifting hand weights) and then maybe some pilates for the bottom. Strength exercises work your body just as much as cardio because the more muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism. Also, I would suggest incorporating as many fruits and veggies into your diet as possible. They are low in calories and fat but are nutritious.

I wish you the best of luck!! You CAN do this! Baby steps but this is possible.

    Have a wonderful Monday! :)
