Is there such a thing as too much SPARK??

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

Well, I have asked myself that question a few times. Is there such a thing as too much Spark? My answer is yes, of course there is. Like anything. Every thing in moderation is how I feel. I myself have been spending too much time on the computer. I really want to write in all my groups and such, but finding the time means staying on the computer longer than I really should be. Answering emails, reading blogs & articles and getting all that wonderful info it great, don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sparks!! But... if SparkPeople have taught me anything, it is to move!! Sitting that long and doing all my spark stuff is not what I should be doing. I need a balance between computer time and MOVE time. Once I get started it is hard to stop some days. There is so much great stuff at Sparks and I really enjoy it. I must make a blance though. Limit my time on the computer, which means limit my time on SparkPeople. I hope my groups don't mind when I don't respond to everything. I like, anyone would love to be part of every conversation. The connections with people is one of my favorite thing about Sparks!!! Still, as much as I enjoy my sparking time, I be realistic and honest. All the time I sit here, is not good for me. I Shall cut down my computer time in my day.
I won't stop Sparking, I Love SparkPeople , but I will create a good balance!!!!!!

I"m a Spark fanatic too! I like STUARTDM's idea of not getting on here until I've finished my exercise for the day!

I jumped in with two feet when I joined! Within two weeks I realized I had put aside all other life aside except my job. I became fixated on making sure the calorie counts etc. matched exactly on my packages and what was listed. If it didn't, I made entire new listings-minerals and all! I lost 5 lbs then stopped completely! I am trying to ease my way back in and lighten up on myself a little. Glad to know I am not alone in my obsessions!

Oh no worries there, I will not drop out. Just finding the balance is all I need. I need my daily Spark too!! Just a good balance. I have discovered I can read some spark articles while I ride my stationary bike. My lap top fits perfect on top of my one unit and I can read and go through articles then. Later I can do my corrisponding during my morning coffee time or my late night relax time.

Just find that healthy balance everyone and keep on SPARKING!!

Me too! I don't allow myself on Spark until AFTER I exercise for the day and meet my daily goal.

Balance is what is important for sure. Sometimes you need that level of interaction and involvement to keep yourself on track and committed to your goals. But eventually you may also find you don't need the same level of involvement to keep committed! Whatever works best for you.

I agree, there must be some limits; I too keep things to a minimum but still find time to browse off and on for short stints!

I can be addicting much like computer games and I'm already on 3 other sites. But the goals of this site is very important to me right now. If I spend too much time on it, I know that I will back down in a few weeks.

I agree with EWESTCOTT, just don't drop out.

I agree, but also love my Sparking. I do most of my Sparking on my rest breaks and it keeps me out of the kitchen. LOL When I get winded and need to set for awhile i do it in front of the computer, and then back to chores again.

ah, I know what you mean! I've been thinking the same thing. I'm on the computer for Sparks and also for several other things and
before I know it, even with all my extra padding, my rear end is sore from sitting too long. It really is hard to find a balance, but definitely something that should be done!

The irony of quoting a singer named MeatLoaf just kills me right now, but "You took the words right out of my mouth!" I love spending time on the site but occasionally it keeps me from other activities. I guess it's just another lesson in moderation.

I agree. I'm spending more time sparking than walking right now. It's okay for now because the exercise I'm getting is heavy moving, and I need the sitting break. emoticon

    All things in moderation.
I find I have to keep my teams to about 6 at a time to keep things simple (and not get confused!).
I think people understand when sparkfriends fade in and out at busy times of their lives.
    Just don't drop out!!!
    I hate that!
I feel so sad when people just disappear,
like I let them down somehow. emoticon

I can understand what you are saying. I love the inspiration and information I receive from Spark People. It works best for me to set a time aside for exercise like an appointment for myself. It also helps that my daughter accompanies me for exercise. I have a sedentary job so it is critical that I utilize my time wisely too.

I am in a different position than most Sparkers. I have a very physical job and do a lot during the day. My SparkTime is my way of giving my body a rest. And boy, do I Spark!

Whenever I feel I need a break from Spark, I always have to ask myself if there is something that my sparking has triggered that I don't want to face. If I truly can say no and I really want a break, I take it.

One also needs to look at the results issue. I am at goal weight and going further than I expected. Spark works for me. I work for Spark! It's a simple equasion of effort=results. And it takes SparkPeople doing it's part, and me doing mine.

Interacting on Spark is a salve, it's an ointment, it is so much than I ever expected. So, for me, I will Spark alot today.

I can totally relate! I love SP and all of the wonderful information and help and community involvement and friends, etc. I sometimes have spent over an hour at a time then been mad at myself because I should have been on the treadmill or walking outside, at the beach, etc. Yes, I, like you, need to find a good balance. SP is great and addicting, but I need to find a balance too. emoticon
