My Weight Journey

Thursday, September 10, 2009

I was always a skinny kid. In fact, when I was a kid, I was called toothpick. I had my Daughter in my mid 30's, gained some weight. I thought that was a good thing at the time. I wasn't skinny any longer. When I got into my 50's, my metabolism completely changed. Now let's through in some stress, my love of Chocolate, oh my...I shot up to 165..My Hubby and I took a wonderful vacation to Montana. Saw Yellowstone, and other sights. When I got home, I saw that I dropped 5 pds. in one week. It was then, I knew I could, and would lose some weight. I did get down to 148 at one point, but haven't been able to completely kick the nibbling. Jeez. What happened to me? I was a strong willed kid lol..The trouble is, once in a while, I wake up in the middle of the night, and can't fall back to sleep..That's when I find something to snack on. I need to be strong, and fight the force!! Let's see where I will be by the end of the year. Hopefully I will reach my goal!

Hi, and welcome to spaniel lovers. I tried and tried to discipline myself not to eat at night, but then I realized it usually was 5-6 hrs. since my last meal when I tried to go to sleep. Now I plan a snack before bed and it really helps me go to sleep and I still feel guilt-free and disciplined. Sometimes I think you have to take all the wisdom out there about preferred practices and adapt them to what YOUR body and personality is like. My current theory is that we will live with the change forever if it is designed with love and respect for who we are, not self-loathing or trying to be who some expert says we should be. For me, otherwise I eventually rebel and then its all downhill behavior-wise and UPHILL scale-wise! Keep up the great work and thanks for the inspiration that it's never too late, even as we mature!

My metabolism changed too! but then when I reached five-o ugh!!! I started to loose weight(stress???!!!) and my love of chocolate was replaced with salt,chips-Now when I wake up,I do grab fruit.Yesterday after all summer of avoiding the chocolate cheesecake I broke down and bought a BIG platter and yes I ate probably 8 pieces in 2 days! Hey I did wait all summer for it,walking by it at least 4 days a week!-good blog!hugs-Kathleen

I can totally relate to not being able to sleep. I used to do that too. Now just before going to bed I have a handful of almonds, sunflower kernels or Kashi Go Lean cereal. Now I can usually sleep the through the night.

It is so much harder the older you get, I know I'm only 35 but I have noticed a HUGE difference trying to lose wt this time around, after having the twins at 32 I went on ww and dropped down from 172 to 145 and my size 11's were fitting it was awesome, then I gained again and I'm back in the 150's, this time it's been much harder to lose, I"m really strugling. We can do this, I think you look great, I think the snacking is the hard part to cut out or at least moderation. emoticon

You can do it! Just try what I'm doing today...a big black garbage bag for all of the food that I acquired the last couple of months that don't fit the plan. We will do it together! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You can do it! If you just need those nibbles, clean out those cupboards and give yourself only healthy choices! Stock up on dried fruit (for a sweet craving) and nuts (for that salty craving). Good luck -- you can do it!

You can do it! I was a big nibbler as well but have decided I would rather wear skinny clothes than eat snacks.

    Have a Great Day! emoticon

Jeanne...I think you are doing great! You know you can do this! Kalathia has a good idea to have healthy snacks at the ready. Stick with it! You are going to reach that goal and we are going to celebrate!

At least you know one of your trouble zones . . . late night eating. You can put some strategies in place to combat that like have pre-made healthy snacks so that you can go to them instead of the foods that pack on calories. You CAN do this Jeanne!

Ofcource you can do it! May be you don't remember your "light weight" days so clearly, but your body does and you know it wants to back. Slowly it will go there and you won't be able to stop your weight loss. It is just taking time and that is OK.
About the midnight snacks, if I find out how to get rid of them I will definitely tell you :)
