Progressing

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Today was a productive day on the declutter front. I got through some more piles in the bedoom and also did 2 of my bathroom cabinets. I threw away tons of old makeup and cologne and rearranged things better. The cabinets are much neater. Of course the house and I reek of stale perfume now. LOL.

I really wish I was able to be more ruthless than I am though. I still hang onto things I could get rid of. Such as a full unused bottle of hairspray. I don't use hairspray any more so it seems silly to keep it. Why? I don't know.

I ordered a cookbook with birthday money I got in May from America's Test Kitchen. It's The Best Light Recipes and I'm looking forward to looking at in later tonight.

You go, girl! I had old bottles of cologne, perfume, etc. I used it a bathroom deoderizer...I bet I'm about the only one that has $40 a bottle bathroom spray! emoticon My husband can't seem to understand that I like two kinds...Elizabeth Taylor's Passon and White Diamonds! That is it!

Hey Morticia, You are doing such a great job! What is it about the hair spray that makes you want to keep it? Maybe as LADYIRIS313 has done, you can set aside a box to give to a local shelter. We have one located here that is called "Women in Distress" which helps women who have been victims of domestic abuse. I have been donating to them for a few years now and they are always in need of personal hygiene items. I'm getting ready to go through two boxes of shoes and be very brutal. I know you can do it!!!!

You're going to LOVE that cookbook.. at least, I do.

Its funny.. I was just having the same thought when I was looking around our bathroom yesterday. I can actually get rid of clothes much easier than products. I think it is because they are so expensive and I feel like I 'should' use them, since I paid for them. You don't know that you don't like a product until you use it .. and then you can't really return it or give it away. I did, however, give away a bundle of unused lotions and soaps that I had gotten as gifts when I was a secretary. A local woman's shelter here is always begging for things like hairspray, soap, feminine hygiene supplies and so forth. It felt good to pass them on to people who could use them. But, like you -- I need to go through and just clean out some of that stuff. At least here I can rinse out the bottles and recycle them -- that's something, I guess.

Good luck with your de-clutter. You're doing great.

I know about not throwing things away or giving/selling.. I hang onto stuff like make up I do not wear anymore- some I got when mom died in 2000- hello its 2009.. my son yells at me for keeping it- I have let go little by little-its so pretty- but he says it is no good and carries bacteria after a while
