My fitness story...

Before I tell you how I became to embrace fitness, let me give you a bit of a background about myself.

I was the fat kid that was teased in school. When I was 9 years old, I weighed 150 pounds, when I was 12 years old, I weighed 230 pounds. My weight continued to climb until I reached my highest weight of 302 pounds last year. I remember being that young child. I was terrified to draw any attention to myself for fear that I would be made fun of. The kids were so cruel to me. I was tormented on a daily basis. The teasing continued all the way up through high school...

Fast forward 12 years later. I was with child and lost the baby during week 6 of my pregnancy. This was in February 2008. Feeling overwhelmed with the loss of my baby, the last thing that I need was added stress. Then I was handed a copy of the doctor's report. As I was reading through it, I came across the line that read "morbidly obese, 26 year old female". I was devastated. I mean, I KNEW I was heavier, but morbidly obese?!?! I was shocked, and embarrassed and angry at myself. I was angry because I allowed it to happen. I didn't want to be morbidly obese. I knew that things needed to change, and quickly!! I was depressed and miserable. I wanted to know what it felt like to be thin. I started searching the Internet for anything I could find on weight-loss. Then I remembered what my sister had told me months before. She raved about this great site called sparkpeople.com. So, I signed up in April of 2008. And I have been with spark people every day since!

Fitness:

I was 300 pounds and never really exercised a day in my life. So, I began walking every evening after dinner for about 15 minutes at-a-time. That is all I could manage. The walking lasted about a month before I became really bored with it. Some people love to walk, but I needed to go to the next level and spice things up. I read on the message boards about this fun and exciting workout program called TURBO JAM and decided to give it a try. That first workout was fun, interesting and made me want more! It made me feel powerful and alive. It was exactly what I needed. I loved working out to turbo jam so much (and still do) that I did one video in the morning, then another one again in the evening. I have a variety of turbo jam workouts, so I mixed it up a lot. After one full year, I lost 150 pounds! =)

The last 6 months I have continued to work out with Chalene. I started Chalean extreme and I mix it up with turbo jam a few days a week. I usually work out everyday. I have built some serious muscle from doing Chalean extreme. I needed to tone up from my 150+ pound loss, and I have! Working out makes me feel accomplished. I don't think I will ever go back to my sedentary lifestyle. How could I possibly with Chalene by my side!

    Hi! I just chanced upon your blog while following a thread on sparkpeople. 150lbs..wow!!! Congratulations! I started out a month ago, but have barely shifted any weight or inches. I weigh 246lbs. I've been doing 15 mins of exercise 5 days/week for the last 4 weeks and have been kind of mindful about what I've been eating.

    Please tell me where I can purchase turbo jam and chalene extreme? I am in India. Good luck to you with your new body and your new life! I would love to be as fit and toned like you in 1 years time! I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers!!

    Your story is amazing! I am just starting and have over 100 lbs to lose, I try to work out 5 days a week 60 minutes a day... I am having trouble getting my calories together it's a bit confusing. I hear all sorts of things, but i chose to follow Spark, the fitness tracker is saying that my activity and calories are not matching up... I'm frustrated because I'm working my butt off and am very proud of myself but the scale is not budging... HELP Please!! emoticon Am i doing something wrong?

    Wow... I'm going to check out Turbo Jam and Chalean... walking's not my gig either.. ho hum.. but I LOVE LOVE LOVE zumba.. but can't always get to a class.. I'd like something I can do at my house..

    I am so happy for you, Dana. Your story really touches me. I remember seeing your page for the first time, back in October of 2008, when you were down like 100 pounds. I couldn't believe you had done it, and you CONTINUE to be a huge inspiration to me. I can't tell you how many times I have pulled up your page for motivation, or thought about how you did it I can too, or told friends about "this amazing girl" on Spark. You have an amazing story.
