The Nursing Home
Monday, November 16, 2009
Today was a gloomy, rainy day. I got my chores done early and we went to visit my dad at the nursing home.
I wasn't too thrilled when I saw the outside of the building but was pleased to see that they had instead spent money where it would be most beneficial - in patient care. They had a lot of staff and they were great.
The rooms were nicely decorated. Modern. Cheery and clean.
The food looked good. Not skimpy like some places I have seen. For lunch he had chicken fried steak with gravy, Brussels sprouts, mashed sweet potatoes, a roll, pudding, and iced tea.
Dad is doing better than the last time I saw him. He is thin and looks like he has been through the ringer but he was more alert and less drowsy. He was less depressed and not as irritable. He even laughed sometimes and seemed like his old self. He still asks God to take him "home" every night but he also is hopeful that he might be able to get back to his home on earth.
I'm glad we went today. I am encouraged.
