I'm using Skype! How Fun!

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Hello Sparkies~

Well, I'm feeling quite "techy" lately. A few days ago my husband and I downloaded Skype onto our laptop computers. This is an on-line telephone with video capabilities that is free when you "call" any e-mail address as long as they also are set up on skype. Neither of us had used it before but I have heard about it and Oprah uses it on occassion to have guests on the show via video skype feed. It is super easy to download and use. If you haven't used it before, I would recommend that you and a friend both download the program so you can test it out. Go to Skype.com and download / run the program. When you add the e-mail addresses of your friends it looks to see if they are also set up on Skype. If they are, you can then call your friends on their e-mail and have a voice conversation or a voice/video if you have a webcam. My laptop has a built in webcam and it automatically magically worked. With my upcoming trip to NYC it will be a great way for my husband and I to "talk" long distance.

One more fun thing to share today. Do any of you play Sudoko? Well there is an on-line version called Foodoko that uses pictures of food rather than numbers. Sort of an interesting twist. You can also download a version to your iphone or ipod touch. Try it out... it's free.

Have fun and wishing you a great week.

I added Skype to talk to a client in England. I didn't use a webcam or microphone cause you can use it just like any other Instant Message program. It's great! Especially for people who live far from each other cause then if you do have a web cam or microphone, you can actually SEE/HEAR the person...and it's free!

My step daughter used Skype to allow a friend in Iraq to be present at her wedding. It really is so cool!

I'm glad you found Skye! It will be a great way to connect with your husband while you are away. I am a Skype grandma! I live in Utah, and my grandkids are in Nebraska, Missouri, and North Carolina! The kids gave us a nice web cam for Christmas last year, and told us about Skype! We love it. It's an awesome way to spend a Sunday evening - visiting with far-away family! The grandkids can share their new "toothless" smiles, their latest artwork, etc., and we can blow each other kisses! We can see the tiny ones as they go through different stages! It's awesome! Thank goodness for technology!

I have used skype with one friend. If I am right, the person you call also must have skype. I am going to try the foodoko. That sounds like fun.

    Thanks for sharing.

We are considering getting rid of our land line soon, so I have tossed around the idea of using Skype also. I may have to look into it again!
