Jaw Infection HELL..

Monday, November 23, 2009

I had posted earlier that I had two root canals done last week on Tuesday.

Wednesday I had HORRIBLE pain in one of the molars that was worked on.

Dentist called in pain meds and antibiotics which I THOUGHT would help.

Thursday one whole side of my face was swollen and hurting BAD and I was having a hard time swallowing due to a knot in my throat area under the jaw where it was infected.

Dentist changed the antibiotic and called in stronger pain meds.

The entire weekend all I could do was lay in bed, I felt so awful! I had fever and unimaginable pain all weekend and yesterday the swelling finally started to go down.

I'm still in a lot of pain today and swollen but it's nothing like it was before. The antibiotics must be working finally.

It turns out I got a severe infection in the actual jaw bone after the root canal. Dentist said it could have killed me if it had gone to my brain, but luckily we got it under control in time.

Once I finish this round of antibiotics I will have oral surgery to open the gums over that part of the jaw and scrape all of the dead tissue off of the jawbone, then I'll have artificial bone material placed on top of that and be sewn back up. Then I'll be on antibiotics for another 8 weeks after that.

This really kind of scares me, because I've already gained 3 pounds this past week from all of the medications.

Pain meds make me VERY constipated and I finally took something last night for relief.

Add to that that all I can eat is mashed potatoes, soup, and macaroni and cheese and exercise of any kind is out of the question since even walking makes my jaw hurt more.

I feel like I just can't win with this weight loss thing. Everytiime I get back on the wagon I do great and then something like this happens and I'm down again. It gets kind of depressing.

Guess I just needed to vent some...

Hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving!
