Thanksgiving "Past".....

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

If you are a Boomer (like me), close your eyes for a moment and picture your best Thanksgiving memory as a child. We grew up in a different time. Yes, there were stresses, but life didn't seem to go at such a breakneck speed and family seemed more important. I was extremely lucky to grow up in a small town that was filled with family and we saw each other on almost a daily basis. There were alot of us and at Thanksgiving, we all gathered at my Grandmother's house. There were also 2 large in the dining room and one in the kitchen. The adults sat in the dining room and the kids in the kitchen. I was the oldest of 12 grandchildren and yearned to be at the "Big Table". My best Thanksgiving memory was the year that I finally got promoted to the "Big Table". My Grandmother seated me so that I could see into the kitchen and I soon discovered that the "Kitchen Table" was having alot more fun!!!!! I think that memory sticks out in my mind because it taught me to "Live in the Moment" and to not waste time wishing for the next BEST THING

Remember those days too. That is one of the reasons we spread the 14 grandchildren out among the adults at Thanksgiving dinner. It also helps to have a "bigger" person to help some of the "littler" ones with serving. Hopefully then all the tables will be having "fun".
    Have a great holiday!
