What Was I Thinking?!?!?!

Friday, November 27, 2009

I have NOT gone shopping on Black Friday for at least 12 years. For some unknown reason, when I woke up this morning, I felt the need to buy the crockpot I had seen in one of the multitude of flyers next to (not in because there were too many) our newspaper. It was a great deal and I have been wanting a larger one to make the many delicious recipes on the SP site. Then I had a total brain failure!!!!! I asked my husband to come along. He has NEVER gone shopping on Black Friday (for very good reason). All the way to the store, I reasoned that it was only one stop and we would be fine. The minute I stepped into the doorway of the store, I knew it was a big mistake. Have you ever noticed that many women grow horns on Black Friday? As I entered the store, 2 women bumped into each other (it was quite crowded) and one actually screamed "Ouch" and began a tirade that I can't print in this venue. I waded to the back of the store, found my Crockpot, and looked for Ken (who was parking the car). I saw him coming down the aisle and couldn't stop laughing.........he was as white as a sheet and his eyes were wild!!! He proceeded to tell me about 2 women in the front of the store who were screaming at each other and that store security was trying to pull them apart. Then he said that the few men who were with their wives all had robotic glazed-eye looks (like Stepford_Husbands???). We left as soon as we could and headed for a "Man-Store". I didn't go in!!! What Was I Thinking??? I WASN'T!!!!!

We don't have "black Friday" in South Africa, but, we do have store openings and I usually run a mile from them. I'd sooner eat dry bread with a glass of water than attend a store opening. My mother went to a store opening to save R4 per packet of dog food, why I'll never know since my mother is fairly well off for an old person. After standing around for nearly an hr in a queue a mile long, she finally quit and went elsewhere to buy the pet food. lol not for me unless I am absolutely broke and every tiny bit of saving counts..

Too funny! Hubby and I go Black Friday shopping every year. We talked yesterday about how we have never had a bad experience. When we go everyone seems so festive and happy! It's almost a party atmosphere.

Made some new friends in line at Kohl's yesterday - an hour and a half wait, but it was fun meeting new people.

It makes a great blog, though. Did you get to buy the crockpot or did you leave it there?

If bought, I hope you have many healthy meals with it and enjoy retelling the story that goes with it. emoticon

I had to call Dan to read this! We both laughed so hard we nearly cried, I can just picture the whole thing. Only ONCE did I make the mistake of taking him with me on such a shopping adventure. He actually made sounds like a cow as the crowds were closing in on us. Never again. Haven't gone myself for several years.
    Thanks for a great laugh.

Oh thank you so much for a great laugh. I don't do Black Friday anymore and would NEVER ask my husband to go with me - he doesn't shop anyway. I bet you both will remember this day of shopping for many years to come. emoticon PJ
