Aerogarden

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Now that we're slowly getting the house situated for the new baby, I think it's about time to fire up the aerogarden. The first time we did it, it was the herb mix. I had so much basil I didn't know what to do with it! I've since gotten some good pesto recipes, and I learned how to freeze it better, so that will be more productive than it was last time, lol. I think I have a lettuce mix sitting around somewhere, and eventually I want to do the tomatoes and the green beans.

Fresh produce all year round is great, can't wait to get this going again. It was our Christmas present to ourselves last year :)

Ohhh I love this ! Basil is usually easy to grow! I love the smell! ummmmm...
Rosemary is really hard to grow here in Ohio, I would bring it in each year for winter, and every plant... died after the second year? I gave up on it! mints are all easy to grow you almost can't kill that! Sounds like a lot of fun! Good Luck!

We didn't have bugs in ours, but I think there were some tips in the instruction manual about getting rid of the bugs. Something like taking the plant and rinsing it under water? Don't remember, it's been a year since I looked at the instructions, lol.

Not all of our herbs did well for some reason. We may not have "tamed" down the more aggressive herbs enough, and I think they overshadowed some of the smaller ones. We had no trouble with the basil because it was the biggest, but there was one or two that we didn't get a harvest from, I don't remember which they were.

Good luck with your garden, it really is worth it once you figure out how to manage it :)

Hi - I had to click on your blog because I love the idea of the aerogarden that I bought the aerogarden 3 (the smaller one) this past summer and tried to do the herbs but they didn't get very far because I think there must have been bugs in them. It seemed like a pretty complicated process to clean out the bugs so I threw out the plants emoticon but do you have any tips on what to do if this happens or how to prevent this because i'd like to try it again.
