Grocery Shopping

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

We've got another big winter storm headed our way, so in response we headed to the grocery store for our weekly food supply. I'm excited about being home for 6 weeks, because this will give me a chance to "reboot" my eating habits. My plan is to give my home meals a healthy face lift while I'm home, then toward the end figure out some quick healthy meals I can take with me to work when I go back.

So, today at the store I did pretty well. We spent quite a bit of time in the fresh produce, and I got some kiwi's!! I haven't had those in forever!! I also decided that I don't eat iceberg lettuce, so why do I buy it? Instead I spent a little extra and got some "butter lettuce" which I enjoy a whole lot more, and it makes for some good "scoop" like leaves to eat with some ground turkey mixtures.

I'll admit I did get a couple of boxed items, but they will be eaten as side dishes, and they will have healthy additions made to them, such as a box of mac-n-cheese will have peas, broccoli and/or tuna added.

I'm excited to spend more time in the kitchen, and this grocery store trip was just the first step! Can't wait to start experimenting with new and old recipes, and head back to the store when the weather gets better to get some new things for some new ideas!
