28 Day Challenge Day 1 Wrap Up...

Monday, February 01, 2010

Today was a fairly awesome day. I accomplished a major milestone as well as stuck to plan. (mostly..more on that below.)

Today at 5:30pm was the one week milestone for me quitting smoking. I wish I could say it's been easy and that I have hardly thought about it at all but that's just not true. I have been crabby(mostly in the evening), and had some serious cravings for sweets. It's all been so worth it though. I can breathe easier and feel much better already.

I achieved all of my goals for today:

Exercise for 10 minutes: I actually did 16 minutes of actual cardio and walked around at a shopping center for approximately 45 minutes on top of that.

No regular Sodas: DONE!

Stay Smoke Free: DONE

Eat two fruits or vegetables: DONE

Read a motivational quote: DONE

Post on the message boards on SparkPeople: DONE

I only really had one low spot today. Bart and I had been to the grocery store and I waited too long to eat lunch so I was STARVING!! So we went to Whataburger and I ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich without the cheese and mayo and with a diet coke. I THOUGHT this would be fairly low in calories. Turns out it was almost 500 calories just for the sandwich. I was so pissed when I found out I thought.."Well I might as well eat the fries too." So altogether I ate a thousand calories in ten minutes for lunch. I beat myself up for awhile but then started to think about what had caused it.

1. I waited too long between meals and was too hungry to wait until I got home to make something healthy.

2. I had the wrong attitude about the whole situation. If I had stopped after eating just the sandwich I could have tweaked the rest of the day's eating to make it fit in, and learned a valuable lesson.

In the future I will make better choices, and even when I slip up I will not let it throw me off course like I did today.

So I would say that Day 1 was a success and I am certainly looking forward to the next 27!

You're doing great! That's definitely the attitude you're going to need to succeed in the long term, so don't forgot to apply the same attitude with every mistake you make. Good luck on the next 27 days and beyond!
