Starting to Feel More Comfortable

First things first: Thanks Amanda!! (mandabear11) You've been a great and wonderful support for the past few months! We can totally reach our goals!

I've been on SparkPeople for a few days now and I am finally getting into the swing of things. I'm not much of a joiner in general, so hopefully having a place where I can choose my level of involvement is a good thing.

I'd forgotten how helpful it is to track foods. I get really frustrated at these sites sometimes because I do most of my own cooking and I HATE to enter in every single ingredient. I usually pick something that is close to what I've made. It's not perfect, but hey, neither am I.

It's been a lifelong goal to learn to open up and accept help from others. Trust has always been an issue with me (that's just what happens when people take advantage of me all the time). I am hoping that my journey to wellness will be a graceful and beautiful process that helps me to develop skills and habits for the rest of my life. I don't want the "quick fix" or what have you. I want to make positive and lasting changes in my life.

I've recently come to the realization that I am capable of creating my own reality. I don't have to be the "fat one" or the girl in the corner or whatever. I know who I am and the time has come to embrace all the quirks that make me, well, me. I guess what I am saying is that my true goal is to have the person on the outside match the person on the inside.

    It took me some time to get really comfortable here too.

    I have a great tip about tracking home made food though: I use the Recipe Calculator on the Spark sister site SparkRecipes. Check it out. You enter all the ingredients into the calculator and then tell it how many servings there are. It calculates the nutritional and caloric value for your meal! Save your recipes and then you can add them directly into your food tracker.

    Also, you can get a few extra spark points when you click on the button that says you made the recipe! Whether or not you choose to share the recipes is up to you. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I just enter the ingredients real quick instead of actually filling in the whole recipe just so I can use it for my own calculations.

    Two more tips: Try searching the SparkRecipe site for other recipes that are close to your own, or even try using the regular database for "Foods shared by other members" (it's an option on the search) - this way you can come up with other homemade foods that are close to your own.
