My Perfect Birthday Present
Thursday, March 18, 2010
As I get older, I find that I don't dread birthdays (the alternative to having one is NOT good), but I don't get excited about them either. I guess I am in the "Birthdays Are For Kids" club. I also do not expect presents at my age. Well, last night I received one that has changed my mind. I want this same present next year, and the year after that, and for as long as it lasts. We went to a restaurant that served Corned Beef and Cabbage. When we had finished our meal, the waitress told me that because it was my Birthday, I had a piece of cheesecake coming with a candle in it. Our 2-1/2 year old grand-daughter was with us and helped me by blowing out the candle. Then, unprompted by her parents, she looked at me and sang Happy Birthday. Throughout the song, she put Gramma wherever there was a you. When she finished, everyone in the restaurant clapped, which thrilled her immensely (she is a bit of a ham). Her song was the sweetest present I could have received. I only wish that it was recorded so that I could play it over and over again.
Oh..........and by the way.........I divided my piece of cheesecake into 5 servings, so we each had about a bite of it.........so I didn't blow my calorie amount for the day!!!
