Observations on Growing Older

~Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them
...but your grandchildren are perfect!

~Going out is good.
Coming home is better!

~When people say you look "Great"...
they add "for your age!"

~When you needed the discount you paid full price.
Now you get discounts on everything ...
movies, hotels, flights, but you're too tired to use them..

~You forget names ... but it's OK
because other people forgot
they even knew you!!!

~The 5 pounds you wanted to lose
is now 15 and you have a better chance
of losing your keys than the 15 pounds.

~You realize you're never going
to be really good at anything .... especially golf.

~Your spouse is counting on you
to remember things you don't remember.

~The things you used to care to do,
you no longer care to do,
but you really do care that you
don't care to do them anymore.

~Your spouse sleeps better on a lounge chair
with the TV blaring than he does in bed.
It's called his "pre-sleep".

~Remember when your mother said
"Wear clean underwear in case you GET in an accident"?
Now you bring clean underwear in case you HAVE an accident!

~You used to say,
"I hope my kids GET married ...
Now, "I hope they STAY married!"

~You miss the days when everything worked
with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..

~When GOOGLE, ipod, email, modem ...
were unheard of, and a mouse was something
that made you climb on a table.

~You used to use more 4 letter words ...
"what?"..."when?" ???

~Now that you can afford
expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~You read 100 pages into a book before you realize you've read it.

~Notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.

~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet ....
2 of which you will never wear.

~~~~But old is good in some things:
old songs
old movies
And best of all OLD FRIENDS!!
update.........
due to using the cane have developed tendonitis to both thumbs and wrists so now am wearing splints most of the time.............am attending a hand clinic which has made a great differnce albeit very slowly...........
things are progressing very slowly with dr's etc.............
have joined a boot camp where i live a few weeks ago to help nudge my body into some serious weight loss am so tired of the long plateaus.............if i didn't have the nordic poles to do this camp i would not have been able to keep up due to the knees issues..........what has surprised me is that most of the people there are young and some have difficulty doing what is expected of us and i have been able to keep up...........i didn't realize i had that kind of stamina!!!!
i must say if i knew what we were going to do everytime i would have quit before i started.........
so thanks once again to Sparkpeople and everyone here who keeps me coming back everyday........... helping and giving me the support i need to not give in or give up............
it is so much appreciated there are no words other then a huge Thank you to all............
blessings and hugs.................lita
    Thanks Lita, fantastic that you are keeping up with the young ones and that the camp is helping. One of the things that I have loved about getting older, 62, is the freedom that it gives to the way I think. I've stopped worrying about what other people think of me and concentrate now on what I want to think. It's liberating.
    Love your resourcefulness and creative use of the Nordic poles to get in the exercise you want to do, Lita! You're a real inspiration. I'm new here, so I really appreciate that - and you! Sandi
    Lita, how amazing for you. I don't think the young have learned the stamina that was ingrained in us from the beginning. If there is a job to be done you keep at it until it is completed.
    Lita,
    Thanks for sharing the "observations". Sadly, I can relate to so many of them. So sorry to hear that on top of everything else, you've now developed tendonitis in your thumbs and wrists. But you are such an inspiration to me, you just keep going, and now you're doing a boot camp. You go girl! emoticon emoticon emoticon
    Lita,
    I am sorry to hear you are having knee issues too. I am fortunate in that I do not have to use a cane or anything else at this point. It is frustrating when one problem leads to another like your thumbs and wrists though.
    Isn't it interesting that age doesn't seem to reduce your stamina, if you have been staying fit? My 60+ year old granny could out-exercise 30 year olds. Of course she didn't drive, so she walked everywhere!
    You are doing well at just keeping at it. I admire your dedication to a healthy lifestyle and Sparkpeople. You know I wish you well. You are one of my dearest Sparkfriends.
    Love, Sam
    PS I loved the getting older message. I could relate to far to many of them!
    GOOD for you! Keep tapping into the stubborn stamina and show them what you're made of, Girl!
    Best wishes with the hand specialist!
