Facebook? More like In Your Facebook.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

I was talked into joining Facebook last year. I loved it for about 5 minutes. I admit, I do like some of the games, but I try not to waste too much time on them.
The thing I don't understand is why people feel the need to post each little detail of their day. I just shake my head, when I read posts such as:
"Going to work now."
"The baby just burped."
or worse:
"I am going to the doctor to see if I am fertile this month, because my hubby and I want kids, but he's out of work and my cat just died so I am seeing a psychiatrist to get over my depression..." etc.
Okay, that last one was exaggeration, but you all know people who post things like this!
Now, if all those facebook friends were real friends, they would know most of your concerns already and you'd go do lunch, have wine, conversation and in general, just feel better together. I guess I am just old fashioned. I don't like my business posted. I don't really like to change my status on SP.
There was a saying about 100 years ago.
"A lady is the the papers 3 times in her life. Birth, Marriage, Death."
Works for me.

I love it for the fact that I have had the opportunity to catch up with people I lost contact with over the years. I was so excited to catch up with people I went to college with!!!

You have a great sense of humor. Thank you for verbalizing my feelings towards facebook. Mostly it is just annoying. On the other hand I have reconnected with some old friends. That has been nice.

How about this expression: Spilling your guts is about as attractive as it sounds.

I haven't joined because I think those type of sites are too intrusive, but that's just me. My son keeps up with my entire family, all of whom are on it, on a daily basis, so I guess it has its merits. Whatever rocks your boat, I say.

Here, here! I was talked/forced to join and can't believe the stupid things people post. "I can't find my keys" "Yah found them!" Are you kidding me? Too much info is even worse!

I only go out there now to check on my kids and to make them feel better post a yah, my kid did this in track....etc.

I am so anti facebook myself. someone writes on my wall if I'm riding this weekend. Why don't you just email me? As it is. .I get an email from face book, have to log in...

some parts are okay to get reconnected w/ old friends and such, but I block all the games and stuff. Requires too much time and I would rather spend it here than there!

I haven't been convinced to join Facebook, and I don't see it happening in my lifetime. I see the value in SparkPeople as there is a definite focus on healthy eating, nutrition, fitness, etc. ... and the team that I'm almost solely involved with focuses on these things, as well as being a great place for motivation and support.

That said, I've seen teams here that have members who post what I would deem TMI ... but individually we can choose to steer clear.

    Good blog post!

I'm on facebook, too. It was fun for a while, but I definitely know what you mean about seeing things on it that I'd really rather not know. I hid that person after that!

I find SparkPeople MUCH more worthwhile!

Did you see the sparkguy's post about Fortune magazine calling SP the "Facebook of weight loss?" I think that's a fair comparison because we do have our own little community. The difference is that we're here to support each other. Facebook really isn't for that.

Have a great day! (Thanks for friending me!)

Had to laugh when I read this. I agree; think people have a hard time thinking of something to write , but it get's old when they post their daily agenda ect. Have to say though that I didn't think I would like Facebook when I joined but have reconnected with some old friends and have really enjoyed being in touch with them. I guess sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

    I hear ya!

Some people share way too much information on Facebook. I was also talked into joining, and added a few friends. After a week or so, I started to "hide" posts from certain people, as they pass on things I really don't want to know, nor should I know!
