2nd Trip to Dietician WooHoo!

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

In a previous blog, I talked about seeing a dietician for the first time. She put me on a low carb diet to help me get my blood sugar under control. Yesterday, was my second visit to see her. I am happy to report that my blood sugars for the past 3 weeks have been in the normal range except for 3 readings. Two of those readings were around 150 and I wasn't feeling good. The other one was a 59 and I had waited to long to eat something.

I will admit that I really struggled getting my carbs like she wanted them at first. Then I found foods that I liked that I cut the portions down some to get the carbs to the right amount. I have to admit the food tracker was a lot of help. Though I still found myself cutting down the portions from the food tracker. When I talked to her yesterday. She did give me some leeway on the carb count. I am supposed to consuming 1200 calories a day 135 carbs. She doesn't want eating less 100 carbs a day and no more 155 carbs per day. I need to spread them out through out the day. 3 meals and 3 snacks. She also told me one of those snacks should be a snack before bedtime. It will keep my liver from putting glucose during the night while I am sleeping. I go back to see her in 4 weeks. I sure hope my report card is as good then as it was this week.

I LOST 4.6lbs in 3 weeks

Wow! That's awesome! I'm glad you are finding ways to make keeping the carbs down more workable. Are you by any chance diabetic? My husband was diagnosed at the beginning of this month, and every "expert" he talks to tells him something a little different as far as calorie level, eating at night vs not, etc. I did show him how to use the tracker on spark and he finds that really helpful, plus he can print out the daily report to bring to his appointments. We get to go to a class soon that is half info on managing your diabetes, half info about what could happen if you don't (like "Scared Straight", that documentary where they made bad kids spend time at the jail with the inmates!)
