Hot Sunday

Sunday, July 11, 2010

It has been a really nice Sunday, a bit hot but I got out early before it got to the 100 mark.
I'm inside now doing laundry, cleaning house and getting things ready for the week and for the next camping trip....

I wanted to post a few things about what I eat, that I find satisfying.
I got 2 e-mails from Sparkpeople who asked what I eat when I just have to have something.

First off I try to distract myself with exercise, naps, calling friends, posting on sparkpeople, reading , beading ...but there are time s when I just must eat, or it's snack time and I want something a bit special, as I am so

I try fresh fruit...apples are great, I enjoy them more if I cut them up in to about 8 wedges, I only buy small apples as they are cheaper and I seem just as satisfied with a small as a medium or large and of course they are less calories, some times I have a 1/2 - 1 tablespoon of fresh ground peanut butter or almond butter from the healthy food store, it has no added salt, sugar or fat, and I think it's out of this it's healthy.
Oranges are good too, I eat one about every day, they satisfy my sweet tooth and of course they are good for you.
and any food is good so choose what you like...

Then some other things are the Fat free Sugar free Jello Pudding cups ( I think they taste the best) I love the deep dark chocolate and heck only 60 calories, and with 2 tablespoons of real whipped cream at 15 calories, I feel like I have been really special....

for crunchy goodies I like the Orville Reddenbacker Kettle corn in the 100 calorie bags, this helps with the crunchy, the sweet and the salty and not too bad on the sodium either, I get he 94% fat free one.

There is a tortilla chip at Sam's and Walmart, at least here in my neighborhood, they are only 60 calories an ounce and I do believe 50 mg. of sodium ..that is way better than any baked chip and they are really tasty a lone or with some salsa.....

I don't get in to the 100 calorie packs, as I feel most are just junk, and they are way pricey for my budget, except for the Kettle Corn

I could go on and on about what I like , I think the secret is to find what you like...
most days my snacks are 3 oz. of chicken breast or yogurt but I try to keep it fresh and healthy and want this to be something I can live with so I never go back to my old eating habit...
I have said this before but will repeat myself.....Not eating healthy is not an option, I take no break from healthy foods, it's my fuel and I want to be as healthy as possible... I make no excuses not to exercise but have learned that we all need to rest.
Rest is part of a healthy lifestyle.

if you have any good healthy snack ideas that have worked for you or that you love please share them with us....
I like trying new things

have a healthy week

Kitt, that was a wonderful blog with lots of good tips. I keep lots of fresh fruit all washed and ready to eat. When I want a snack and especially with this so hot weather, I like to grab a handful of cold grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, or just any type of melon and it helps cool me down and satisfy my sweet tooth. I also like a lot of the newest Yoplait yogurts to cool me down. These things have helped me maintain even when I get really tempted. I don't get near as tempted as previously because I like the snacks I pick now. I also like to have celery/carrot sticks and dip into F/F dressing. Nancy emoticon emoticon emoticon

This week I ate lots of watermelon. I bake occasionally. I use regular recipes but I use natural applesauce with a tablespoon or 2 or light olive oil instead of the fat and I use 1/2 splenda and 1/2 sugar for the sugar. It really reduces the calories and still tastes very good. When I make cookies, I make the batter softer than normal and use a spoon to spread the cookie dough out because without the butter or shortening, they don't spread out as they bake. I make oatmeal, peanut butter (with no flour) and chocolate most often.
