Working For The Weekend

Friday, July 30, 2010

It was a nicer day today but it rained several times.

I'm kind of worried about my dad. Lately we have been getting these calls where the phone rings and it hangs up before a full ring and the caller doesn't register on caller ID. I thought it might be more robocalls but at 3:30 in the morning the phone rang and it was dad. When I answered the phone it hung up. My husband and I were worried but we didn't want to call back in case dad was asleep and had rolled over on his phone or had knocked his cell phone off the bedside table or something. My SIL does this all the time and calls me by accident. If I call Dad about this I'm sure he will get irritated as I just talked to him and he doesn't like to have it pointed out if he messes up. Hubby and I never did get back to sleep.

Today my son and I cleaned the 6 pet cages, cleaned the bathroom, vacuumed, and did 3 loads of laundry. Plus all our regular chores and we did some bulk cooking. Fixed a bowl full of our mixed berries and a bunch of skirt steak, 4.5 pounds pork tenderloin, and 6 burgers. I will have meat for a while. Won't have to fix supper tomorrow.

Did you get a chance to talk to your dad?

I wish you'd called the desk. And I know how frustrating that is. Sometimes I'd call, wanting to talk to Mother's nurse and the phone would ring and ring, then some worker from another hall would answer, try to connect me, then it would ring and ring again.

I vote for you getting him a cell phone that automatically locks so that there is no "butt dialing" involved. Most of them do that these days...perhaps his does too and you just have to adjust the setting on it.

    I'd be worried too.

I'd rather face his grumpiness/injured pride than be worried all night.

Yes, I agree with two other posters about the redial button being hit. Maybe he's trying to reach your other relative but doesn't know that the button he is hitting is yours. My sister use to call our dad's nursing home when he was still living to check on him and ask any questions that she needed to have answered. It helped avoid a lot of confusion by doing so and at least gave her peace of mind. Hope things will be well for him, and that you will be able to enjoy a great weekend. Take care! emoticon

Hope things are ok with your Dad. Despite it not being a fun conversation, though, it's probably a good idea to discuss it anyway. Good luck.

Great idea about your bulk cooking. I've been doing a little of that here and there.

Good planning as always. I'd like to have a good steak. I usually ruin them so I stopped trying to cook them.

How far away is your dad, and can you check on him? Probably neither answer is a happy one! Bill's nutty brother, when going through a very rocky spell, used to phone his mom's house and play Satchmo singing "It's a Wonderful World" without saying a word. This weirded everyone out.

I hope you come up with a tackful way to discuss this with your Dad. I also hope he is OK.

We went to bed with storms and woke up with storms. YIKES!

Take care my friend and keep up the great work. You are doing awesome.

I know how hard it is to be far from elderly parents. You want to help, but you can't and when you try the simplest things, like calling him back at 3 am, you get chastised for it. I do hope he is just accidentally hitting the redial button, but next time you are able to visit, I'd check to see where his phone is positioned.
Sending you good thoughts, my friend.

Definitely sounds like your dad may be hitting your number on speed dial. At our house they are called butt calls (as in sitting on the phone). LOL Sounds like another productive day for you. How old is your son? I am impressed with all of the work he does around your house!!

Surely he's not calling and hanging up on purpose....especially @ 3:30am!! I bet he did roll over on it...

Holy cow (no pun intended)...that's a lot of meat! Nice to have it all ready to heat and eat!! Wow...I rhymed and didn't mean to. HA!

Those pesky phone calls can stop IF you unplug the phone at night. I'm working on my steps as you recommended. Have a great weekend. deb
