Scared, Nervous - a BIG Baby! ! Not for the squeamish

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Today I will be trekking down to the local MRI facility for a screening of my "frozen" shoulder. I have endured MANY such procedures with a variety of athletic and such injuries. However - the scary word here is dye injected! Yes folks, the MRI will be dye injected for a better picture of what is going on in there. How is this done? By inserting a needle into my shoulder joint, DEEP into my shoulder joint and inserting the dye. I have a podmate who had it done and told me that you are given a local prior to the insertion. Won't feel a thing. Then he proceeded to tell me how he passed out when he saw the needle. Did I mention my unusual fear of such things? So today I am sitting here waiting for my 16:30 test in absolute terror. WHAT if they don't use a local? WHAT if they jam a bone, WHAT if I pass out of worse, throw up? Ughhh - I am sure that the anticipation of the procedure will be far worse than the actual procedure.

Anyone with knowledge or kind words out there?

Sorry I'm late in reading your blog. I hope all went well and it wasn't too terrifying for you my friend.

Hope the MRI went well and you now know what the problem is and also what you can do about it.

You and my grand daughter and needles, deep breaths and close your eyes and don't look at the needle, that's the scary part. Hope the MRI shows the problem! emoticon

They WILL give you a local. The anticipation is definately worse. Just close your eyes and do deep breathing through the whole procedure. I also have a unnatural fear of needles and I found deep breathing helps alot. Wishing you the best

Sweetie - if you pass out, throw up or worse (well you know), then you do. I'm sure they've seen it all before.

Take a deep breath, let it out and find a happy place to go to.

    Wishing you all the best.
