Not earth shaking

Friday, September 03, 2010

I get e-mails from people asking what I eat, how do I stay with my plan for so long....

I thought I'd share, not earth shaking but just how the process has worked for me....

I found that 1 teaspoon of jelly taste just like 1 tablespoon,
1 tablespoon of smuckers strawberry jam is 60 cal.
1 teaspoon is 20 cal...for smuckers double fruit jam and it's 40 calories for a tablespoon....(one place said it was 25 but the smuckers site says 40)

like I said not earth shaking but finding ways to eat what you like but still save calories can help stay on the road to healthy eating.....

I know people say I eat the sugar free but for me , I have tried it and it tastes funny , I want my food to taste as good as possible...so I won't feel deprived...
When I start feeling deprived or sorry for myself, I tend to stress over my eating and that leads to over eating or using food to sooth my emotions....

well enough about that..

Do what works for you, what makes you happy..

I do not have any thing really to share about the book "Rethink Thin" not a terrible book but no real info I want to pass on except to say, the reason people gain back the weight they loose is because they go back to old habits, something most of us know.....Each person who gained the weight back, stopped watching portions, stopped or cut back on there exercise plan....

I'm shouting this now from the roof top...IF YOU GO BACK TO YOUR OLD HABITS YOU WILL GET BACK YOUR OLD BODY....FACT......THERE IS NOT CURE FOR OBESITY, OVER EAT, UNDER EXERCISE YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT..OVER AND OUT

Have a Healthy and Happy week end.

Kitt, I have to thank you for this. You might have thought it was not earth shattering but it shattered my world this morning. I have been struggling for so long, all year....and I keep hanging in there no matter what but in all of 2010 I have lost 3 pounds overall and I still have 100 pounds to lose! I have had several little lifelines thrown to me over the past few weeks and each one seems to be something that is pulling me upright again. I finally had a good day yesterday, finally. It was thanks to someone to told me to just tell myself I had never gone off my plan and act like it, and it worked. And then this morning...this morning I log on and I see in my friend feed your comment "If you go back to your old habits you will get back your old body. There is no cure for obesity...." and it was like getting hit with cold water! What was I thinking here? That I could slide back and nothing negative would happen? That I could tell myself it wouldn't really count? You are SO right about this, but you are right about everything you put in your "not earth shaking' blog....and it is ALL earth shaking for those of us who haven't seen it or lived it. Because truly every choice I make matters, and I needed to be reminded of that.
I work with at risk youth and adults and one of my passions is studying poverty and how it effects people. Something that has been shown is that people who have no tools to live in the middle class print based world need mentors or navigators to work with them to show them step by step how to navigate a world they really have no experience in. A world of college, training, etc. I am thinking this journey takes the same thing, and you my friend are providing that for those of us who are still trying to find our way. I cannot begin to thank you enough for what you posted this morning. It may have well saved my little life today.

Thanks for being blunt.. we need that.. I need that. I knew this of course because I read the articles but to have someone who is real, who is doing it tell me "Over eat and under exercise, you will gain weight" means more.. it makes more sense somehow. I am grateful that when I started this journey I knew I had to do this in a way that I can live with.. I don't see my life style changing too much. except I might enjoy a treat a little more often. I can say this because I prefer the way I eat now over how I use to eat. I like being active and I hate feeling lazy.. Great Blog and I'm sure you have helped lots of us.. Thanks again...

Kitt, actually there is a cure for obesity: eat healthy, exercise, and change eating behaviors/habits to stay with healthy choices. That cures it. The problem is most people don't want to do the work. They want an instant fix to lose the weight so they can keep on doing the same old things. Well, that's not how it works. And if people want the cure, they have to do the treatment. And too many people just aren't willing to do it and have a zillion excuses for why they can't (i.e. won't).

You have done the right things and have changed your lifestyle. You're doing what needs to be done, and I applaud you!

You are so right. I also won't substitute, just cut back on my amount so I can still have it.
