I finally got some good apples and have been making apple sauce today, I use jonathan, with no added sugar or salt..just cook them in the crock pot it is more like cooked apples as I let then stay chunky...I bought a whole bushel so plan on making pies and apple crisp too, freeze most of it...they are so good on those very cold nights .
Best part there were only 50 cents a pound when you buy the bushel, we got some early in the month that were 1.79 a pound and we had to pick them ourselves...they were wormy too, most got thrown out.....
not so good today I have some knee pain, not sure why, but I am icing it now hoping it's better tomorrow..

We are grilling out for dinner tonight , with lots of veggies too.....in fact I can smell it right now, dinner will be soon , good because I am hungry..
so have a healthy Saturday and Sunday, have some fun too.

Sounds like fall. Enjoy those apples. We had pears galore off of our pear tree this year. I usually can apple pie filling, but this year with so many pears, I actually tried canning a few jars of pear pie filling. Had made a pear crumble and it worked, so why not pie?

I even made a small jar sweetened with Splenda to try for my Dad. He is diabetic and since my mother's death, I am experimenting with sweeteners other than sugar. Do you just use sugar in your pies and crisps?

Ions ago, when we married I got a crock pot as a present. I never used it as I thought it was a dumb gift. I gave it away to a charity re sell store.

Now everywhere I go, I hear about crock pots and after reading about your applesauce, I know I'm going to get one too. Thanks.

Mmmmm all smells good to me. LOL!

I love grilled vegetables. Any and all!

You gave me a great idea, I think making a single serving
of any home made treats would be great.
A nice big bach of something whipped up and froze.
Yep great idea. When I get back from my trip, I will be doing that.

Hi Kitt, Gee, I haven't cooked up apples in years. At home a neighbor had an apple orchard, but never sprayed the apples so we had to cut out the bad spots and cook them up rather than eating them raw. Stewed apples, applesauce, apple pie, yum! Enjoy fall!

Your applesauce sounds good and easy to make! I just got some apples from an orchard in Hiram, yummy! Got some homemade blueberry jam as well. My dad thought that was my favorite, (it is blackberry) so he bought me 2 jars. If you have any easy low cal recipes for them it would be appreciated!

I remember making applesauce with my mom every Fall. We would freeze it too. My mom was always big on desserts. Most of the time, it was jello with a dollop of whipped topping. When we had our homemade applesauce, she would crush graham crackers and sprinkle a little on top and then put a dollop of whipping cream on it. It was so yummy. She also made the best apple crisp.

Thanks for telling us about the applesauce. It brought back all those wonderful memories.

    Enjoy your evening!

    Hugs,
