Just have a salad

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Planning is actually becoming an integral part of my life....and it's about time! The group of ladies that I lunch with each month decided to go to Mimi's Cafe. When I told my friends that I was trying to eat healthy, they told me that Mimi's has lots of good salads so I can "just have a salad". True...but, according to the nutrition info on their website, most are loaded with calories. The smaller salads are in the 300 range but I think that is without adding meat. Eating salads as a meal has been my downfall in the past. I used it is an excuse to eat a forbidden treat....or 2 or 3 or 5....justifying it by telling myself, "I just had a salad for lunch". Unbeknownst to me, sometimes thoses salads probably had anywhere from 800 to 1500 calories.

So I perused the menu, and decided to have the hummus sampler....two different types of hummus, flatbread wedges, and cucumbers. It was satisfying and took a long time to eat. It had 494 calories....but I didn't eat even half of the hummus. I am counting that as 2 snacks and only had a yogurt for breakfast so that keeps me right on track to not exceed 1200 cals. today.

FOOD:

1) Yogurt (didn't have anything with it because I wanted to save some calories for lunch
2) Lunch with the girls at Mimi's Cafe.
3) Hummus, pita wedges, and cucumbers
4) Vegetarian chili
5) Turkey sandwich on whole wheat bun
6) Apple with peanut butter
Raisins, carrots, orange, almonds

EXERCISE: 20 Minutes of DVD

10 min. abs
10 min. stretching

I am starting to get comfortable on this journey!

I like your perspective in this situation...I didn't think of it like that. Thanks for your insight.

You have to be loyal to your friends - but you gotta be loyal to yourself first. "Just have a Salad" often comes from well intentioned friends who are afraid that you will expect them to change too. Good for you for planning ahead. I have learned something from you - as my sisters and I are due for our quarterly lunch next week and I was afraid I'd over eat. Thanks!
