I must have caught the "Dining Out Bug"

Wednesday is Date Night...which means dinner out. Since my husband is a creature of habit, I can be assured that we will be dining at one of our regular places which makes it easy to plan ahead. However, I still need practice in dealing with the unexpected opportunities to dine out that could catch me offguard and have the potential to upset the apple cart...such as what happened today.

I always pre-plan my food for the day every morning after eating breakfast. Since this is Date Night, I allowed for the few extra calories that could bring. Then hubby called and wanted me to meet him for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. Panic instantly set it. I hadn't been there since I started eating healthy and it is a family restaurant so their calorie and nutrition counts aren't posted online. What to do....what to do....oh my. I didn't want to tell hubby that I would prefer a rain check because he thought he was doing me a favor by taking me out to lunch.

Another problem was that I really was not hungry. So I knew I had better come up with a plan...and I did. It was to scan the menu for something healthy, eat a few bites and then take it home and add it to tomorrow's food plan. I ended up getting a 6" turkey sub on whole wheat, with lettuce, tomato, and onions.....no cheese (this was a biggy for me....I love cheese), and asked for the mayo on the side. Good thing I did that, they gave me more mayo than I use in 6 mos. So I spread a very thin amount on one side of the bun and added some mustard on the other. Then I cut the sandwich in half. By that time, I was actually hungry so I ate 1/2 the sandwich, didn't eat the pickle or even one potato chip, and asked for a take out box for the other 1/2 of the sandwich.

All in all, I had a nice time lunching with hubby. I left feeling satisfied, proud of myself, and with tomorrow's lunch.


1) Yogurt with blackberries, blueberries, and walnuts
2) 1/2 Turkey sub with lettuce, tomato, onions, mustard and tiny bit of mayo
3) Vegetarian Chili
4) Date night
6) Apple with peanut butter
