Hi Danny, Just ran across your intro and 1 yr follow-up video blogs! You hang in there - it's fact ... You CAN do all things through Christ! It's a promise we, as believers, can take to the bank. In Mid May 2011, a blood test revealed that my triglycerides were 304 and the Drs. wanted me to go on meds immediately!! With little directional help from them I prayed for the Lord's help. I learned they could be lowered by diet and exercise. The Dr. gave me 6 months to try! Again, needing direction, God blessed me with Spark People and I've been a member since May 28, 2011. TOTALLY Committed this process to the Lord!! In May I weighed 186 (Am 5' 1 1/2")and have lost 40 of the 60+ plus pounds I needed to lose. An even larger PRAISE report is that after only 5 months of following the SP heart healthy plan my triglycerides were in the perfectly normal range - 86!! God has provided you with the vehicle - Spark People... Now you get behind the wheel and drive it until you are healthy!! TRACK everything that goes into your mouth and everything you do that exerts energy!! Take advantage of the point system, log in daily-it keeps you focused, and use the spark points system to reach the goal of 25 points a day, then you will get an extra spin on the wheel and lots of encouraging trophies! May seem silly at first but this WILL help! And...YOU WILL REACH YOUR GOAL and the blessing of health that will accompany it!! Commit this process to the Lord FIRST ... then go ahead and Be strong and courageous for HIM!!! He will make the crooked path straight ... the burden will be easy!! Blessings to you in your journey of transforming your life!!! 3128 days ago

Hi Danny, Know and believe that God really loves you. He will talk you through your process and He is there cheering you on all the way. Your victory will be a testimony to people everywhere that there is NOTHING too hard for God. Take it one day at a time and ask God for a new strength each and every day. There is nothing, I mean nothing too hard for God. Test Him and try Him. If you ask Him in faith, He will come through. Just believe. God bless you. 3305 days ago
You can do it Danny!! Don't give up! You're right, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!! He WILL deliver you from this bondage as you continue to seek Him & move forward in you journey to triumph over this bondage... Continue to stand on His truths. He says, "We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus." "He does not give us more than we can handle." That means you're a strong person Danny! You can do it!! 3349 days ago
Hi Danny, I've been on SP for about a year and lost about 25 lbs. But I lost most of last year because of 3 cervical spine surge's am finally recovering and am going to get going again with tracking my food. That seems to be what helps keep me honest about what I'm eating. When I tracked my food I got such a feeling of empowerment and I found I wanted to eat correctly. Just knowing I had to write down everything I ate kept me from cheating. I wish you all the luck in the world. Judy 3451 days ago
I really hope you are able to stick with this. Its a new year now and you are only a failure if you fail to try. Don't give up! This is your life and you cant be stuck in that body anymore. Go Danny!! 3497 days ago
Hey Danny! Way to keep going. Remember, everything is hard before its easy. Keep practicing your healthy habits and some day they will come naturally. You inspire me with your willingness to put yourself out there and share your journey. You can do this, one step at a time! 3528 days ago
Hi Danny You Know I am Moved By Your Story And I have Gained And Lost Weight, But The most time i was successful was when i prayed to god to give me the desire to want to lose the weight. put people (positive people) in Front of me to help. And What Helps me stay on track since i have adhd is all my things for the day need to be planned out for the whole day. so theres no question what am i eating for my lunch my snack, breakfast. it does help get in order god had an order in creating us and this earth and he wants us to turn to him, believe me danny when i was sooo depressed i pray to god in tears to help me any situation.ask god to show you what he wants for you he will show you, he did me i hope this helps i love, god loves you. Sally also dont knoeck youreself down for messing up anywhere because that becomes the past and you start a new day tomorrow. think positive! Its all mind over matter. 3537 days ago
I am a firm believer that each time to try to make positive choices for your self, each time you get a little better at it and each time your efforts become more and more successful! I pray this is your experience Danny! I have been dieting in one form or another for years, and it wasn't until I turned 28 that things finally started making sense and my efforts really started paying off. there were alot of misses and failures but in the end I'm a better person for it and God has brought me through this with flying colors and he will for you too! Keep the faith and keep on truckin my friend! 3537 days ago

Hi Danny! You are right, you can do this if you just put your mind to it and never give up! I am struggling too but I think I'm on the right path now and I want to share a few things I learned in the 4 years that I have been here in Spark...If I bring junk food in the house I will eat it, so I don't bring it in the house. Also, just a bit of exercise is better than none, so do something to stay active every day and try to push yourself a bit more each time. Music helps motivate me so put on your favorite music and get to it! I started not being able to walk much, and today I walked 5 miles and felt like I could have kept walking more. Document your progress by measuring yourself and don't let the scale dictate how you feel. You have a wonderful and supportive community behind you to help you along the way! Just remember you are doing this for yourself and you are worth it!
I know how hard it is for you but stay motivated, I myself have gained 10lbs and sometimes I feel that I am not getting there. But just by looking at my friends and their help I know that I will take this weight off again
You have a great attitude Danny. I'm behind you 100%. Your doing great! I know you can make your goal. I added you as a friend if that's okay with you. I hope and pray that your journey will bring you happiness and loads of smiles. Rachel 3560 days ago
Hi Danny! I added you as a spark friend b/c I want to be there to support you through this journey. It's phenomenol that you are taking these first steps and are willing to make the changes you need to make in order to have a long, healthy, happy life. I know you can do this! Keep it simple...small changes done consistenly over time will yield big results.
Let me know what I can do to help and support you through your journey!
Hi Danny, I know you can do this.....you have to consider what have you got to lose? and what do you have to gain??.....Ultimately it may prove to be difficult but isnt it written that the hardest path is the right path??..... It truly is worth it in the end..... Now I dont know if you like to cook??....There are some fantastic recipes on sparkrecipes.com and if you walk to the grocery store and shop for the ingredients and make the recipe yourself, then you will find it tastes better, also the meal will be healthy and satisfying...... On days you dont feel like cardio? do some strengthening exercises try to complete five more reps or one more set each workout session.....Bicep curls with a small weight to start with, then when you can do your reps easily, increase your weights..... Do you have a dog Danny? I have a beautiful German shepherd, she is two years old and is my walking partner....she stops me from getting lonely, and she is great company walking, and of course I have to walk her, she needs to use the washroom and needs the exercise to stop her from getting depressed.....an excellent motivator!! 3564 days ago
Hi Danny! It's the Poohbear (Tony) in Halifax Nova Scotia just stopping by to say hi. Happy to see that you are keeping your faith strong & that you are still in the fight. You will win! You will succeed! You can do this buddy! Together, we will conquer our food demons.
Thank you for the blog, it is an encouragement to me to know you have not given up. It took guts to say it out loud in public. I have been on sparks for 4 months now without any weight loss, I'm learning alot about healthy eating, BUT I am discouraged at my own failings. Love the bible verse you quoted and am going to make a new commitment to asking for God's help along the way. Best wishes to you! Leeal 3567 days ago
Hi Danny, It is me again from NC. You make me feel proud for sticking with it a year later. That reassures me that YOU have what it takes to beat this weight thing. Trust yourself and Believe your words because YOU can do all things through him that strengthens you. Start believing that in your HEART and everything will begin to fall into place. You are surrounded by your Spark Friends and we believe in you. Take it one meal at a time and don't beat yourself up if you get it wrong sometimes, just keep trying. 3568 days ago
Danny, Hang in there! Just baby steps. I'm taking them along with you. Exercising with your pastor sounds great... and I'm very proud of you for filming the updated video. Look forward to your next one! 3572 days ago
Hi, Danny. Please hang in there. I first joined SparkPeople several years ago, and when I work the program the program works. Meanwhile, however, life has been difficult and I've been on SparkPeople and off SparkPeople many times since I first joined and am still over 300 pounds (ignore my avatar - it's what I WANT to look like!).
One of the great advantages of SparkPeople is that there's no condemnation here. You can keep coming back and will always be welcomed and encouraged.
One of the things I've learned from my experience has been that RECORDING MY FOOD is the one step that makes the most difference for me, whether recording on paper or in SparkPeople, it's apparently the just doing it that makes the difference. SparkPeople makes it wonderfully easy to document my efforts, which comes in handy when talking to your doctors, family, or whomever you choose or need to share with. Recently I did an inventory of what I spent my time on and realized that I WANTED to spend time recording on SparkPeople, and that to do so I was going to have to NOT do something else in order to free up the time. So I removed what I've come to call "time clutter" and am working to create a life-habit of getting on SparkPeople regularly.
Another tool that's great is the Notes section at the bottom of the Food Tracker page: I've been able to help myself by recording what events trigger emotional eating, as well as what foods trigger binge eating.
Last, give yourself encouragement: when I walk up the stairs and have made it safely I tell my body "Good job, everybody! Knees you did well! Legs, you too! Lungs, I know you're stressed right now, but you're going to make it and you're doing a great job!" and mentally picture myself as a coach applauding and slapping team members on the back. Doing this has helped me realize how much I've craved love and good words from others over the years, without ever realizing how hard and negative I was toward myself! Now, after giving myself good words, I feel happy and like I've done well and WANT to exercise again soon!
Don't give up! We're in the stands rootin' for ya! Remember that God gives grace to make changes, and works in synergy with us, not in opposition or in forcing us. So choose to make life changes, one change at a time, until they become habits that change your life! 3576 days ago
Dan - just like Chris Downie says in the Spark - start one thing and make it a priority each day. Do it every day to create your Streak! Then, soon it will be a habit. Small streaks add up to great progress. You can do it! Believe in yourself, challenge yourself and watch your progress grow! 3580 days ago
You said the words yourself. "If i set my mind to it." There is nothing more rewarding than having complete control over yourself and your food. You can do it. You just have to make the decision that you want it and you are willing to do whatever you need to. I have faith in you. 3586 days ago
Hey there Danny, I'm so glad you're still working on the weight - don't give up friend! I've struggled with weight for more than 30 years, and turn 50 in a few weeks -- let's do this thing together okay??
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" You are right. Print that out and tape it to your treadmill so as you walk you keep reading God's words to you. Take it a day at a time. A life change isn't easy, you will struggle and you will doubt you can do it at all. but wake up each morning with your mini goals in mind and do just that. I do the same. Realize each day is new and you have a chance to do it right! Take it a day at a time, a food choice at a time and you WILL succeed! All the luck in the world to ya buddy! Hang in there! 3591 days ago
I am praying for you today, Dan. Take one day at a time, make good choices just for one day. Then wake up the next day and make good choices again for that day. I'm glad your pastor is a friend to you. Let us know how you're doing. 3593 days ago
