1 Year and 29 lbs ago

Thursday, October 21, 2010

On 10/14/10 I signed up for Sparkpeople. I made my page, set my profile and goals and then...

did nothing. Until the end of February when suddenly I realized that I wasn't using the tool set right before me. So I got busy. I got motivated. I found my dedication button and somehow I managed to lose almost 30 pounds and keep it off. Amazingly, by the end of May I had lost a little under 30 pounds.

Then life happened... I got busy with my work, at home my son was preparing to go to college and eventually left for college, I had surgery for skin cancer and couldn't work out, I had inflammation inside my eye and couldn't work out, I injured my knee and couldn't run... etc., etc., etc.

However, during the summer I also discovered kayaking and somehow, amazingly, the good eating habits I had learned from February to June stayed with me (for the most part) and I managed to maintain the 29 pounds I had lost. Am I disappointed that I didn't continue losing this summer? You bet I am. Am I discouraged and ready to give up? Absolutely NOT.

I'm back, ready to find that dedication I know is there. I am ready to get motivated again. I'm also proud of myself that I didn't gain weight, that I did manage to squeeze some hiking and lots of kayaking into my summer days and somehow, even with the graduation and birthday celebrations, the many, many goodbye/hello/goodbye dinners we've had for our son as he has come and gone from here to school, I have surprisingly been successful in maintaining a steady weight. This is something I have really never been able to do before. Usually I lose weight then I am up, up, down a few pounds, back UP... you know the drill.

But, enough is enough. I feel like I am now ready for the next step. I'm ready to get moving again. I'm ready to make further changes with my diet and incorporate even more life-altering, healthy choices into my daily routine. Hopefully by Christmas I will be another 15 or 20 lbs lighter!
