Will times be getting rough

Sunday, November 21, 2010

This week I have a Thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday, another one on Thursday and a Thanksgiving Lunch on friday.....That's going to be a lot of opportunities to over eat....lots of time with mass amounts of food... and people saying "it's okay EAT...it's thanks giving and you have so much to be thankful for......I know it happens every year....
What i have learn was to agree, it never seems to do any good to say that your watching your portions or you trying not to over eat....so I say oh thanks or it all looks so delicious.....then I get away from the food....I try and find something to do, help serve, or set out food, take the kids to wash hands or what ever I can to get away from the food.....then I look it all over again and remember what I planed on eating not what others have told me I should try....I don't start eating till almost the last, and honestly no one really seems to care as long as you don't mention your trying not to over eat....lol.....I then find a smaller plate take a nice slice of turkey a big helping of salad, and what ever other veggie they might have, not green bean casserole , just because I never have liked it......I'll also have some stuffing if it's not to wet looking, then I get the biggest glass of water I can fine, I drink one glass before I eat....I eat slow, by this time most everyone is saying how stuffed they are and will remark, "are you still eating" I smile and say yep, it sure is yummy.....I'll have to have a piece of pie too..I cut my own pie and give myself a rather small piece once again no one really cares what I do or eat .
after my pie I tell the host or if it's my house , lets get this food put away, I stay busy getting the food out of my sight, and if they want I'll start bagging for guest to take the left overs home or in the freezer.....
this has worked for me the last 4 thanksgiving and any holiday meals.....It seems as long as I agree to eat myself silly they leave me alone, I never do it and one last thing you need to comment on how full you are too and you might get some one to go for a walk with you....
Hope you all can find a way to enjoy the holidays and not regret or feel guilty ...

I have a week of Thanksgiving to get though and I know I'll be fine.....

That's great advice. I find that as I was loosing people would say... oh you can't eat that can you? and I say sure I can.. I have found that as long as I don't bring it up my eating style ususally doesn't make a conversation...LOL I really like the idea of waiting to start till the others have started.. it really does look like you enjoyed the food.. and I'm sure after smelling it and seeing it that its very tasty...

I don't think times will be getting rough for you, Kitt -- you have a perfect plan and have 4 years of practice under your belt. The rest of us can learn a few things from you!

You have everything planned out, and your excuses to get away from the food are very creative. Why is it that people try to force-feed everyone? If you were an alcoholic, would they be trying to force you to have a drink? I don't think so. With all my health problems, I have the built in excuse of just saying ,"Doctor's orders." and no one pushes me. You are such an inspiration and I admire you so much. I sincerely hope your plan works. emoticon

Great plan! Sounds like you have Thanksgiving down. I usually do quite well also because I always went to Mom's and she and I make all light versions of everything and had loads of veggies. This year I'm going to Aaron and Ambers and nothing will be light except what I bring. I'll be fine though, I know I can do it, plus I'll be doing a 10K that morning and that will at least have me ahead on the calorie burn!

    Oh Kitt!
Once again you have come up with a great way to survive the holiday! Thank you for sharing your stratagies and what has helped you! Thank you! Even though I will not have a big family gathering this year, I will still use some of the things you have suggested and remember them for in the future when I am in a big group of people! I think I will even call a friend to go for that walk you mentioned! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thank you again for sharing so much of yourself with all of us!
