Thanksgiving Day, my how things have changed. It used to be that on this day my home would be filled with family and loved ones, fast forward to today and a dinner out with my son and daughter-in-law, it just didn't seem right. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the time my DH and I got to spend with them, but I miss the rest of the family that has scattered to different areas and now have families of their own that they celebrate with.

Then to make matters worse my dear friend passed away on Monday night. She battled cancer for 19 years and she finally lost the fight. I know she is in a good place now, free from pain, but I already miss her so I can't stand it. We are having a big Red Hat event next Saturday so I made this collage in her memory to display on a table. It gave me some closure in doing this and I know she would have liked it.

I know I have so much to be thankful for, this is just a little bump in the road for now.

I'm sorry for your loss. I love the collage you made for your friend. These things are important. It helps ourselves and others to take a moment and reflect on a life that impacted them in some way.

Be gentle with yourself. Give yourself time to grieve. It's OK to miss the way it was. You'll find a new rythm for the way things are now.

What a beautiful tribute. I know the timing seems unfortunate, but you will forever and always remember her at Thanksgiving with gratitude for her friendship and all that she taught you. I would like to think that she chose this time for that very reason. She will always been in your heart, especially at this time of year. That's her tribute to you.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. It is never easy but when it is so close to a holiday it is worse. We have had a big change in our family this year too. It feels weird but I'm sure as the years go by we will get used to it. emoticon

Hi Diana, just sent you an email and then read this. I'm so sorry for your loss. The collage you made is lovely! What a nice tribute. I got similar relief making a scrapbook of my father 25 years ago to display at the house after his funeral when people came over. I also did some things to honor my mother's passing 5 years ago. Labors of love that help heal.
