EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL PAIN

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Hi Spark friends. I'm sorry that I have been absent for awhile seems so much has happened. As the title of this blog indicates I have experienced some emotional and also physical pain. On November 22nd I lost a very dear friend to cancer. She heroically battled cancer for 17 years, but finally lost the battle. I miss her so much but know she is now pain free and at peace. This has been my emotional pain which has caused me to withdraw a bit. Physical pain? I thought I had injured my shoulder doing kettle bell exercises. For about 3 months I have been having extreme pain in my shoulder and with my friends death and all the holidays kept putting off going to the doctors while hoping it would get better on it own if I rested it. I finally went and had an MRI. The doctor says I have degenerative disease of the rotator cuff and the bicep tendon. His fix for the problem is to inject the shoulder joint with steroids. This isn't acceptable to me, all it will do is temporarily relieve the pain and not a permanent fix. I emailed my naturopathic doctor and she said there is a homeopathic therapy called Prolozone Therapy that actually stimulates the growth of new tissue. I have an appointment with her next Thursday to take her all of my test results and discuss the possibility of this treatment for me. Being in constant pain is really wearing me down from losing sleep and not being able to do things I usually do. I have had trouble focusing on my course studies and that worries me. Then on top of everything I got a call back on my recent mammogram which scared the life out of me. I went back and had an ultrasound and thankfully everything is ok there. So hopefully this explains why I haven't been very active on Spark People these past several months. On the bright side I finally got a Vita-Mix, I have been wanting one for a long time.
Happy New Year to you all.
Hugs

Hi Diana, I'm so sorry you are having such trouble. I really hope the shoulder treatment the naturopathic doc suggests does the trick. I don't blame you for wanting to avoid the steroids. However, my husband has the same condition in his knee and after a surgery to create a cushion to replace cartilage 5 years ago, it eventualy got bad again. His new doc has given him 2 cortisone injections about 9 months apart, and he's doing great after 2 years now. He was told that injecting it right into the joint restricts the medsto that area and it's not a health risk systemically. Don't know if that helps any, but I wanted to share it with you.

Glad to hear the scariest of scaries bypassed my favorite Lady Di (with all due respect to the one of late) - and fingers crossed for you on the prozolone and celebrating the Vita-Mix - you deserve it!

LadyDi, Sorry to hear about your sad times. Hopefully you'll be able to regain use of your shoulder again this year. It's not an easy road. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Marcia and Jude, thanks for your comments and encouragement. I don't believe in Western Medicine's practices of just doing things to cover up symptoms instead of addressing the causes. I am hoping and praying that the homeopatic therapy is something that can actually help address the cause of my shoulder pain. I will let you know the outcome of my visit with Dr. Purcell, you may want to check out her website at:

I'll be interested to hear what you find out. I love knowing new more "natural" ways to have the body repair itself.

Sounds like what happened to me this past summer, except it was my dear doberman that died. I'm still trying to get on with my life without her; it's hard (some days more than others)! I didn't have an MRI and have done nothing special for my shoulder (except take 1/2 a muscle relaxer at bedtime), and it has been improving. I may not have what you have, though.
