Day 6: Catching Up...

Thursday, January 06, 2011

No, it's not 'C' even tho it looks like it, lol...

Today was the first of six 'Advanced Diabetes Management' classes in the NHS Healthy Lifestyle program. I was, shall we say, less than impressed.

First, there was supposed to be a 30-minute stretching / chair exercise session. Unfortunately, the person who was to conduct it couldn't be there due to scheduling conflicts. Mmm, okay, fair enough, but - it isn't like this was set up at the last minute.

Second, the room was freezing. I mean, literally freezing, as in 32 F / 0 C - for some reason the 'zone heat' wasn't working at all. Could they have taken us to another room? Grrr... no. All the meeting rooms were booked long since. Finally they called a couple of maintenance people who said 'Oh, yah, it's been out since before Christmas.' GRRR--!

Third, the presenters decided to pack it in early. Now, I wasn't exactly sorry about it because by then my hands were blue and my breath was making little puffs of condensation. As we sat there. No blood stirring.

Himself had dropped me off and was picking me up, but didn't know that I would be out a good 40 minutes ahead of time. I called him, but still had to sit cooling my heels for twenty minutes. Except, tell the truth and shame the devil, I should say I was WARMING my heels as I sat in the reception area (where there was HEAT) and played solitaire on my mobile phone. Wasted time? Yes. I guess you could say that.

I suppose the course is worth exactly what I pay for it.

On the bright side: I walked up 1-1/2 flights of stairs, not breathing hard at all - while the rest of the group was definitely struggling. So I think I'm doing better than I was a year ago!

How annoying - I hope you can give the organizers some feedback.
But, good news about the stair climbing. It's the little pieces of feedback that we are making progress that mean so much. It really means we ARE getting healthier.

Here you try to do something good for yourself, and it is a bust. But good for you walking up those steps and not getting out of breath. And just think all that shivering burned all those calories. emoticon

Way to go, Kasey turning lemons into lemonade! I can definitely tell if I'm out of shape when I walk up stairs...I live in a trilevel house so I have to go up and down all the time and know it will get easy carrying less weight!

I take it you did not pay for it---or at least I hope so---otherwise I would say demand your money back!

Ok, put that behind you now~

I had to pay for a similar course, and I didn't find it worth it either. Time or money.

    Hugs,

I didn't realise that you had diabetes!

The First seminar sounds like government workers worldwide, clueless!

Hopefully they get their act closer together for the next meeting!

Great way to find the positive in what seems to have been a very dismal and disappointing day. It makes you wonder, doesn't it, how some people actually hold on to their jobs. One snafu you can forgive, two you can accept, but after that? Be glad you didn't have to pay for it. And, you walked 1.5 flights of stairs without gasping for air? Wonderful!

I do hope your next five classes are better run and more helpful than the first. Good luck with that! Must say, I am enjoying your ABC blogs. Very clever! Congrats on being able to walk up 1 1/2 flights of stairs and not breathing hard. Good for you! I have been able to do that as well and it feels great!
