Day 9: Update

For those of you who sent goodies, advice, suggestions, tea & sympathy, words of understanding and kindness - thank you!

I can sit at the computer longer now, whereas for the last few days it's been a struggle. (And I don't have a laptop, even if I had a lap, lol.) I'll get caught up, it just might take awhile.

I found several exercises that are supposed to help with back pain / strain. I think they are: although it was pretty stiff and painful when I got up this morning, I did a ten-minute set of the VERY GENTLE stretches and I have definitely done better today. I'm taking it very slowly, though, so I can mend.

I'm going to see the doctor this week to try to nag him (!) into hurrying my podiatrist appointment to deal with the plantar fasciitis. (Yes, Cath, your idea is a good one - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but right now, some of the time is better than none of the time, lol...) I'll also bring up the back problem, with an eye toward getting him to set me up to see the physical therapist - I want some pointers on how to strengthen my back correctly so I don't have this recur in the future.

Again, thank you all for your good wishes. I just know 'the vibes' are helping to bring improvement.

    I started working with an exercise ball last summer. My PT lady suggested it when I asked her for exercises I could do for my middle. What it does is strengthen your core-which holds everything up and in place. I sit on my ball thru out the day and do upper body exercises, even pilates with it. It really has made a big difference in my balance and core strength-and it doesn't strain anything while you are strengthening.
    Hope you got better quickly. Our life lessons really are to use it so we don't lose it!

    How about a chiropractor. Believe it or not, they have bee known to help with foot problems and of course backs. I am heading off to see one soon.

    I've been doing physical therapy for the last couple of months and it really does help me. You should be getting pain reliever as well as PT.

    Abs------ When its better--do more Abs--- that will strengthen the back-----Poor you!!!--Anyway, you do sound better in this blog--happier --if that is any consolation!-Ha Ha----Forget the DRs medication--It will only make you drowsy --(my husband is a DR)-----Try to keep moving (as much as you can)---get some pelvic tilts in---- and I hear chocolate ice cream cures aches and pains--NO NO NO---I wish eh!!--Ha Ha---- Hope you are well soon--Lynda emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Sorry to hear about your pain. As far as working on fitness without using your feet you should give DanceParty 2 for Wii a try. My husband is an amputee and does it without too much adaptation. Just doing the arms and upper body gets his heart rate up. The wii fit board doesn't work at all for him but DancePary just uses the hand thingy.

    Are you using a night splint? I had a cast boot for day wear and a night splint at night. It took a while but it took care of the problem. This was 7-10 years ago. After I got out of the cast boot I wore and still wear shoes with a 1 1/2-2" heel. That gives me lift for walking. This was on the advice of the physical therapist. You should be seeing an orthopedist and a physical therapist. Get your physician to write the PT prescription for both the heel problem and the back problem. They probably are related. Good luck with all this. I know how painful it is.

    And good for you for doing the chair exercises. I was not so dedicated and I gained weight during this ordeal.

    You're wise (we already knew that!) to be doing only gentle stretches until you get checked out by your physician. I hope he's able to give you something to help relieve the pain as well as get you some PT. Take care, dear SparkFriend!
