Day 10: Thought(s) for the Day

Monday, January 10, 2011

I strive (maybe most people do) toward self-improvement. While I suppose it's been true for the better part of my life, the last few years feel as though I've had a heightened awareness of it. I've put more effort into this 'quest,' tried to learn more, read more.

Today I came across the following article:

es/features/5-steps-happiness

I won't copy the whole piece here, just outline the basics.

1) Be grateful.

2) Consider your surroundings.

3) Keep it simple.

4) Put things in perspective.

5) Step outside your own drama.

I'm still mulling over what I've read. Are these 'five steps' sufficient? Is there anything I would add? Or would I draw up a slightly different list?

It does seem to me that many of these tie into the sense of mindfulness that I've been reading about. I haven't done any diligent research or anything, but I feel as though I'm getting closer to clearing my mind of its clutter, much the way you might clean up your house and get it organized.

As I say, I'm still pondering this article and its bit of wisdom. It's a good place to spend some thoughts.

Isn't it funny how we all want to step out of our own drama. I have been trying to step out of others drama also, and they just won't let me. Sometimes I think texting on a phone is just evil. emoticon

Wish I could step outside my own drama right now. Feeling very blah right now---not sure if I am coming down with something or what.

I especially like #5 - Step outside your own drama, I know a lot of people that could use that one, myself included. As always, thanks for sharing, you always give me something to think about! Hmmmmmmmmm

I really like those basics! They work for me for sure, but then my life is very uncomplicated. I had to work hard to get to this point and put up with a great deal, at work and at home. I'm not sure the whole list will work for let's say, moms with lots of kids, or anyone who is required to 'respond' to the needs of others all day. Still, it's a decent victory to be able to get whatever you in perspective, at least in one's own life.

Step outside your own drama -- aha! -- something I'd do well to learn. Along with the other things, too!
