Life Happens

Monday, January 10, 2011

It has been many months since I have been on Spark people. I had been doing very well, logging my food, blogging, exercising and losing weight, then my dad became very ill. He was in and out of the hospital for several months before he was finally diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in addition to end stage lung disease. We brought him home on August 12 and 5 weeks later on September 16th he died. The weeks that followed were also very busy trying to take care of all his affairs and take care of my mom who had just lost the man she had been married to for 59 years. During all this time I did everything I needed to to take care of everyone else but I completely forgot to take care of myself. Somewhere in the past 24 hours I remembered I needed to take care of me so here I am. I hope I can somehow remember that even when life happens I need to take care of me. If anyone has any helpful suggestions please let me know. I am back to logging my food, blogging and heading to the gym as soon as I finish. Thanks to all for being here!

I'm so sorry to hear that your father passed. My prayers are with you and your family.

We mom's are used to taking care of everybody else and then feel guilty for doing something for ourselves. Realistically, we have to take care of ourselves so that we can help our loved ones when needed.

You're right! Life happens and sometimes it hits us out of left field. The important part is that eventually we figure it out and get back with the program. I was MIA for a few months too and I am glad to see you are back!

Take care of yourself as best as you can and just keep trying.
