I had a binge...

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

All was not happy in our household yesterday. My oldest daughter is a freshman in High School and her grades are just not too good. I will need to vent on this more in detail, but I'm not ready yet.
Anyway, I was angry all day over it. I was surprised at how much Mary's issue affected MY mood. I did, however, manage to keep it in check, foodwise, even when the middle kid, Kate-the-budding-pastry-chef, made delicious reverse choc chip cookies. I ate one and not a bite more.
But when everyone was home from work and school and clubs (around 8:30) they all gathered to rave about the cookies and were eating them like crazy. Did I feel left out? Heck, yes! So I thought, "Well, I have a bit of room to play in my calories today, so I will eat a few of the lower calorie treats!" and I the treats...the whole box. emoticon
I lucked out this time. No weight gain, but the experience really taught me the value of not losing it, while trying to lose it!

I ate more candy and cookies over the holidays than I normally do and now I'm used to having a cookie whenever I feel even mildly hungry. Arg! I thought I broke that habit years ago and now here it is again...

Hopefully all the stress will settle a bit and next time, you'll have more willpower and only eat three.

I've been there with binging on 100 calorie packs of whatever I have. Guess it's good that it wasn't the full calorie/fat loaded treats. Great that you learned from it. That'll help you choose differently next time.

We all slip once in a while - just keep moving forward and all will be ok. Kids can be frustrating and many times must learn from their own mistakes.

Oh goodness! Snacks are so horrible! It's like they call your name.

BUT It sounds to me like you was emotionally eating because of all the stress. You needed comfort, and what better comfort than food!

    You're doing great though!

It frustrates me when other people or events can have enough power over us to cause us to binge. It's like "I'll show them and eat a whole pizza" or whatever. Yeah, like that fixes it, lol. Some of us can't or don't stop there and it can takes weeks or months to get back on the wagon. But, you did great by recognizing the issue and stopping at the end of the box of cookies.
