The Mayo Says YES!
Friday, January 28, 2011
I've been anxiously waiting to hear what the Mayo Clinic had to say about my Radiologist report (from my MRI) and whether or not they would consider treating me. They said I would hear from them this week. For those of you who read my last blog, you know that I couldn't wait and I found a number that I could call and check to see how things were going. It was a blessing that I did call on Wednesday, because the fax that I sent last Friday didn't register into their system even though I have a receipt that says it went through. When I found out, I quickly went to the UPS store and had them send the fax twice. Then I went home and called to verify that they received it. (You have to wait 20 minutes after sending the fax in order to verify the receipt) They said that they were short staffed on doctors to review the reports so I wouldn't be contacted until Friday or Monday with any kind of answer. I felt okay with that information because at least I knew what was going on and had a little bit of a time line.
This afternoon I started to get restless and wondered if they had an answer yet but just weren't calling me for some reason. My intuition again was right on target. I was told that YES! I was approved to come to the Mayo Clinic for treatment. I asked about appointment dates and was told that the next appointment date would be in April. I wanted to make an appointment immediately but the woman said that April appointments weren't opened yet. Apparently, the neurosurgery department only schedules appointments sixty days out and the April dates won't open until the first of February. I assume everything that isn't scheduled must be emergency, research or school related. It appears to be very a selective and organized department. I hope that works in my favor as far as treatment is concerned. I can't tell you how relieved my husband and I feel.
