FEAR

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Sounds crazy, but I am totally afraid that my husband is going to develop heart disease and/or diabetes before long. His father has both. His mother has heart disease. His sister has extremely high cholesterol, etc. etc. etc.

Anywho.....I love that he's going out and exercising a little lately. He loves soccer and has been playing a couple times a week with some people at the local community college. I read a little blurp in a fitness magazine recently that a Dutch study found that men who played soccer for three hours a week had better cardiovascular health than those who ran for the same amount of time during the week.

There is one thing I wish that I could change, though. His eating habits are terrible.

And it doesn't matter what I cook...my husband is a great cook himself. So if I cook something he doesn't want to eat (i.e. something healthy)...he'll just fix up something else for himself. Ugh. And his food is usually high in fat and low on everything else...even the veggies he eats are often fried.

So...what terrifies the most is that women in my family often live to be over 100. My father's mother is 93 and still lives at home, cooks all her own meals and cleans for herself. Her AUNT passed away just a couple years ago at about 105. Both of my grandmothers have been widows for almost 40 years now. That is not the kind of life I'm looking forward to.

So what can I do? If anything? He's a grown man who knows his own mind. It doesn't matter much what I say...he'll do his thing anyway. I guess I'll keep plugging along and hope that he kind of gets into the healthy lifestyle thing...
