Why are people so nasty?

Monday, April 11, 2011

Well today i feel rubbish.....mainly because some woman in the shop said something nasty to me. I tried on a maxi dress which was a UK size 6. No some 6's i can fit into but normally i am an 8. A size 6 was the only one on the rail so i thought i'd try. It fit perfectly round the waist and hips but the zip wouldn't do up by 2cm around my bust. I got changed and went back to the fitting room assistants to ask if they had any more sizes...i didn't state which size i needed. There was a woman that had come out of the fitting room next to me and she heard me ask so she turned around and said to me, "this is a size 10 but you probably need something bigger then that". I was mortified, embarrassed, cross and upset all at once. It was all i could do not to burst into tears.

I know it may not sound much to some people but up until 18 months ago i was always a size 6 now i am a size 6-12 (UK) so for a woman to turn around and basically say that i looked too big to get into a size 10, i was so upset, especially when i am trying so hard to loose some lbs.

To make matters worse i then weighed myself and i have put on 1lb so today i am 8st13lbs, very nearly 9st.

I feel horrid.

Oh, honey, I can hear how badly she hurt your feelings. What I try to remember when Ai hear a comment like that is that it's all about them. They have to put me down to feel better about themselves. Then I try to remember two things one was said by Eleanor Roosevelt, "no one can make us feel bad without our permission," and the second is "what other people think of me is none of my business. I'm doing the best I can, living my best life, and what others think is their thing. I can't change it, I can't fix it. I can only change how I feel about it. So that gives me something worthwhile to focus on.

That said, the witch had no right to say that. Regardless of what you've gained, which could just be stress pounds, now that it's past, focus on what you can do about it. Drink more water, more cardio, strength training. Writing about your feelings. You can do this! Most of us in the "overweight/obese/food-challenged" have dealt with this and come up with our own personal mantra or means of dealing with this. Good luck!

I really, really dislike people like that! GAH! I would have turned around and told her "Excuse me, did I ask you WHAT size I needed? Because your eyes need adjusting - because you are WRONG."

I hope you have a better rest of the day!!

I wouldn't let her comments get to you. It isn't worth it to let someone else have that much power over you to make you sad or ruin your day. You have the motivation to lose the weight and you will.

People can be horrible! Just ignore it. She doesn't know you and has no right to judge!
