Soul Meets Body

Saturday, April 16, 2011

I am going to use this blog to keep track of my daily activities.

Today I went to the doctor. There was a 2 hour wait to get in, but I had my arboriculture textbook with me so I could study while I was waiting. My doctor told me that I most likely have PCOS. We had a good discussion about my concerns, treatment, et cetera. I felt sad and frustrated that my last doctor treated me like a hypochondriac when I tried to get help for the problems that I know now are caused by PCOS. I also felt relieved to have a solution to my problems, and optimistic that I can heal.

While looking up information on PCOS online, I found a forum that suggested using spark people; so I checked it out. Needless to say, I joined and I am even more optimistic for my healthy future now that I have this new tool!

Tomorrow I plan to be put of bed by 8 AM, take the dog for a walk and have eggs and broccoli for breakfast. After that, I will get ready for the day and study for my exam. After my exam I will read, exercise or plan my activities and meals for the next week. I will then get ready to go out to the Dan Mangan concert downtown!

And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new"

Hi, welcome to spark! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I also had PCOS. I was able to manage it with diet. There are families of foods that affect hormones. The raw brocolli, raw cauliflour and coffee were big problems for me. Cooking the broccolli and cauliflour change the chemistry so it's not a problem. Naturopathic doctors helped me with the problem after I had one ovary removed and a giant cyst on the other ovary was heading me into infertility. The giant cyst disappeared and future cysts were small and far between - managed with diet and herbs for 20 years. Don't lose hope, there are choices. Caffeine is the first line of defense, give it up and the pain will lesson. Spark is full of resources, there are tons of groups, health articles, recipies, workout information and an incredible community of folk to support healthy choices. Enjoy the journey and don't forget to spin!
