Day 118: News Day

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Well, not 'Newsday' as in the old NY newspaper - is that still published?

First, had a couple different eBayers meeting me to collect their stuff in person, which saves me major hassle. I meet 'em at a local McDonald's - easy for them to find and makes me feel more secure than having strangers come to the house - so today was payday. Okay, £9, but hey, it's £9 I didn't have yesterday, lol...

Second, Himself got me a new phone. Keep in mind it's all relative: my now-retired model was one of the first to have a screen with graphics but no camera, etc etc etc. I think it's about... dunno, eight years old? Worked okay for me with a pay-as-you-go plan and so on, but stepson #2 has one like this and told Dad that stepmom might like it, since it's super user-friendly. We'll see about that (I can be notoriously thick when it comes to tech comprehension), but tinkering with it this afternoon is more fun than I thought it would be so - hey-ho, I'm now officially in the 21st century!

Third, and most important, had another in a seemingly endless string of doctor's appointments. This was just the GP, and sometimes I think I must drive him nutz. The receptionist always says 'What's it for?' when I book the appointment. When it's not urgent, I can't get one for a week or more - which is fine, but by the time the appointment actually rolls around, I have not only the original question but a half-dozen others.

Sinuses? Let's try a nasal spray, Rx for that.

Howza back? Let's cut the ibuprofen (and the concomitant stomach-protecting prescription) and see how it goes.

Howza foot? Update - another podiatrist appointment next month.

BP? Hrmph. Wouldn't you know, today it was 142 over 78. You may recall that last time it was like 130 / 80. Grumble grumble. Keep with the Lisinopril.

But the really good news: with the continued weight loss (did I mention the now-three-week plateau to him? did I hell!) and exercise, and the sterling HbA1c on the last report (yay!), as of tomorrow I am trialling discontinuing the Metformin. He said he was ready to declare me officially 'diabetic - diet controlled.' Get a load of that! So good thoughts, best wishes, prayers, and fingers crossed (and any other positive cosmic vibes you can think of) that the blood glucose stabilizes and I can now STAY off the meds. That means I really need to focus on the hypertension, but it's within reach now, thinks me.

I am still (STILL! after nearly 100 pounds gone) coming up as 'obese' on the BMI charts, but I'm still (!) convinced it will change, however slowly, as long as I stay committed and work on it. So there's my state-of-the-Kasey report for today.

Oh, and he also booked me for a blood test for thyroid function. They do this periodically, and it always comes up normal. I'm not anticipating anything different this time from it - I'm tired of being tired, but I don't think this will change anything. But I dasn't leave anything out of the report, lol...

And we came back from the doctor's to find a message from the realtor. Someone's coming to see the house on Monday. Third people we've had viewing. Wonder if the third time's the charm...?

Okay, that's it from me. Off to Beatleband, then bedtime. I'm really looking forward to the day after tomorrow - I told Himself I have the big TV reserved for Friday from 8 AM onward. He's welcome to watch it with me, if he chooses to, or he can go play on the computer, but that television is MINE for the day--!!!

So goodnight, Sparklers, wherever you are!

How great to no longer need the medicine! I am on that drug for PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome), and I know firsthand it has some nasty side effects. I'm sure you'll be at a healthy BMI in no time! :)

WOW Kasey, what a fantastic report and to get rid of one of the drugs is the best news ever, emoticon
Now with the new phone, you have moved into this century and I am proud of you, it can be sometimes a fearful step into this world of technology that my 2 year grandson seems to know more than me LOL

You have a fantastic sleep and look forward to the TV

    Love Kerrie emoticon emoticon
