Mom, are you available ...?

Do you ever get that question from your adult kids? My younger daughter called two weeks ago to see if I was available to help them move this past weekend. Their family has outgrown the apartment they were in, and with the new baby due to arrive mid-June, they've been looking for something bigger. The bigger is a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhouse with a basement (laundry hookups) and a 2-car garage. Her landlord let her know that it was available about 10 days before moving day ... time to get packing.
So she packed, and packed and packed. They had arranged with some friends to help with the big items, but she wanted my help for smaller boxes, etc.
I drove down on Saturday after Bible study - arrived around 3 pm. I had my truck packed with a twin mattress (big boy bed for my almost-2 grandson), a filing cabinet, and some baby clothes I had brought home in my suitcase from Belgium. So I went straight to the new place so we could unload the truck. Then to the old place - and I was busy until 8, loading and unloading their van and my truck.
Sunday morning, my daughter and I got up early and worked on unpacking kitchen boxes. Then back to the old place for a couple more trips with boxes, and then to clean. It was empty, clean, and the key turned in by 4. Time to eat a quick meal and then head home.
It was a long weekend ... lots of hours of hard physical work. But I did well - up and down stairs, carrying lots of boxes. All of the work on the treadmill over the past couple of months really paid off.
My other daugher and SIL in Minneapolis are also planning a move this year ... I think they need to be out of their apartment for 8/1. I wonder if I'll get a call from them ...
